Sunday -Thursday October 16th- 23, 2014 This morning we are leaving our one night stand at Camelot RV Park.It was a nice park & it would have been a nice place to stay had we planned to spend any time in this area.
On our way to Harrison, we first stop in Hardy, Arkansas, Lennie's mom lived in Hardy for a while during her childhood.
We had lunch here in Hardy then hit the road again for Harrison.
Otis is not use to me sitting in the back seat & he was torn between sitting on Lennie's lap, YES while Lennie is driving!!! Or coming back & sitting with me! Tough decision for a little dog!!!
We couldn't park our RV in downtown Hardy, so we parked in a closed Welcome Center & drove the 3 blocks into town. Now we're back on the road!
We're having a later than usual dinner because we had a late lunch in Hardy. While I'm preparing dinner, I'm also watching for the sunset! I don't want to miss it! Lennie has a perfect view of the setting sun & he lets me know when to grab the camera!(He could take the picture while I finish dinner!?!)
This morning after breakfast we are going to visit at the Gillihan homestead. They have only been living in Arkansas for 2 years after their move from Arizona.
Aunt Frannie Gillihan |
After some visiting "someone" was hungry!
After lunch, we head back to the Gillihan's, there's 21 years of catching up to do!
John put his dogs outside. Poor dogs, they're so confused! They thought for sure it was their house!?!
Everyone was sooooooo busy gabbing, before you knew it, it was dinner time!?! John & Lennie went & picked up a pizza. I can't believe we're eating again!
We left shortly after we ate pizza, I know, I hate to eat & run but......
The RV park is only about 10 minutes from the Gillihan's house, but it's a dark curvy road 10 minutes!!!!
Today we are going to visit my niece Jennifer & her family over in Springdale, Arkansas. We are going to drop Mom Williams off at the Gillihan's while we go to Springdale. Sprindale is about an hour & a half drive from Harrison. Glen & Jennifer own their own flower shop, & will be busy in the shop till 2:00pm so we don't have to get a real early start.
Lennie sets his GPS, tho lately "FLO" has been having some real navigation issues, still we find our way to Jen & Glen's house/shop!
Their home & business is connected, so they never have a reason to ever be late for work!
Glen's family has been in the floral business for over 40 years, so I guess Glen knows what he's doing!?!
I made knit hats for the 3 kids. I had to guess their kids hat sizes. Turned out Landric's was a little too small.....
We had a too short visit cause Lennie doesn't like driving in the dark if he doesn't have to, We said our good-byes & the kids showed me one more moment of cuteness!
I don't know how I missed getting a picture of Glen, he's soooooo tall! Jennifer is my brother Eric's oldest daughter, but I haven't seen her in over 30 years! I'm sure for her it was like meeting me for the first time, but I hope not the last time. When we were leaving, Ryker kept saying,"You guys can come back any time you want! Awwww, so cute, from out of the mouths of babes!
Okay heading back to Harrison to pick up Mom Williams.(Otis was with us today!)
Today we are going back to visit the Gillihan's but not until dinner time. John & Evelyn have some Club events with their trike club to do, sooooooo, we're going to drive to Eureka Springs to look around before meeting the Gillihan's for Mexican food! A favorite for both Aunt Fran & ME!!!
Almost 20 years ago, while on our way to Texas for Thanksgiving, we stopped in Eureka Springs.....& this is where we stayed.....
We weren't the only ones visiting the Chapel! I think Ray Stevens has a song about a squirrel loose inside a church!?!
Our chapel was the last site in Eureka Springs to see, now it's time to head back to Harrison.....stop by the Gillihan's & head to the Mexican restaurant!
John showed us his 2nd place trophy in his TRIKE bike events today. I don't know if his sidekick "Buster" won a prize or not, but he was sure dressed for the part!
Look at the size of my stuffed burrito!!!When we were done, the waiter asked if anyone wanted dessert! "yeah....right!"
Tomorrow morning we are leaving Shady Oaks Campgrounds & heading to Branson, Missouri!
This morning we leave for Branson, Missouri. It's less than 50 miles away. We didn't really have to leave Shady Oaks for a distance like that except......
if we planned to see any shows in Branson, Lennie would not want to be driving at night on these dark curvy roads, too many deer to worry about.
if we planned to see any shows in Branson, Lennie would not want to be driving at night on these dark curvy roads, too many deer to worry about.
So......this morning we head out!
Here we are....we made it to Branson, Missouri!
Our destination RV Park while we're in Branson is
As soon as we checked in, we got information on all the entertainment in the area. We plan to see 3 shows, 1 each day! From an economic point of view, Branson is probably known for tourism, including the shows, plus the lakes which brings in all kinds of water entertainment. From a tourist point of view.....Branson is probably most known for....their TRAFFIC!!!!
This guy was brought up from the audience to participate in Nancy Sinatra's old hit, "Theses Boots Are Made For Walking" He REALLY enjoyed himself!
After the show....it was time for us to enjoy ourselves with a little frozen yogurt!
Now back to the campgrounds, to see Otis! Our little treat after the show wasn't enough to ruin our dinner!
Day Two in Branson means another show! This time we're going to have lunch out before going to the show. We're going to go to a restaurant recommended by Lennie's cousin, John!
Today's show IS country, we are at Mickey Gilley's performance.A few years ago, Mickey Gilley was in an accident while helping a friend move. He fell & suffered severe spinal chord injuries. It was thought he would spend his remaining years in a wheelchair. He did have to sit in a chair from time to time while performing, but considering what he's been through, he put on quite a performance.
This guy is a voice impersonator. He has his own show, A Tribute to Conway Twitty. He sang one song for us, he did a pretty good rendition!
Two days down, one more day left in Branson!
Today is our last day in Branson, then we are moving on to Maggie Valley, North Carolina! This afternoon we are going to see Mel Tillis. This morning, we start getting ready for our departure....After today's show, we are meeting up with the Gillihan's for one last dinner get together before we go our separate ways!
So that's it for Branson, we had a good time in the 3 short days we were here. time to move on, our road trip is coming to an end......
