We'll be back next week & we've already reserved our spot!
This is it, site #71 the FREE laundry room is right behind our spot! It's open 24 hours I can walk there any time I want! Like I'd ever want too!?!
Time to roll & this is the view taken from our dash that we're leaving behind.
When we return, site #71 is more than river view, that site is right on the river!!! Okay......we're off, & heading down the highway!
It doesn't take long before we reach Mississippi & the BEST REST AREA EVER!!!!
The rest area wasn't quite open, but not a problem.....we pulled around to the side parking had our lunch inside the RV giving enough time for the Welcome Center to open, & we went inside to check it out!!!
Back on the road. Our destination is Isle of Capri Casino.
It's not even a RV Park, it's just the Casino parking lot with water, electric & sewer hook-up! We are here for The King Biscuit Blues Festival, we can "CAMP" in the parking lot & get picked up by a Shuttle Bus straight to the Blues Festival, how convenient!
It appears we have a friend!?! I thought this was an abandoned dog, so I put some of Otis' dry food out for him. He turned his nose up at it!?! After a night here, we realized this was the "Parking Lot" dog! He's here every morning running after the security guard & the garbage collector. He barks at the other dogs here, he doesn't want any other dogs taking over his Parking Lot job!!!!
We are here for a week of Blues related fun! Lennie has done LOTS of research & there is soooooo much to see & do in this area, after all we are in the heart of the Delta, home of the Blues!
We have reached the CROSS ROADS & it is said, it was on this very spot that Blues singer, Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil!?! Also at this spot is Abe's BBQ, said to be the best BBQ in Clarksdale!
Next.....a Blues Museum!
This was a guided tour museum, but when we got inside & started talking to the guy.....he realized we knew a little something about the Blues & let us walk around on our own. He had a LOT of good stuff in there!
Not far from the Rock & blue Museum was the Delta Blue Museum, they had some GREAT stuff in their Museum, it was soooooo great they didn't want you taking ANY pictures of it!?!
Across the street from the Delta Blues Museum, is a restaurant/ Blues bar, Ground Zero, Owned by actor Morgan Freeman.
Other sights around town........
Before becoming a hotel, it was a hospital. It's there where Blues singer Bessie Smith passed away after a car accident.
These are restored share cropper homes. Now being used as hotel rooms! They are advertised as B&B. That's NOT Bed & Breakfast....it's Bed & Beer! I think it would be cool to stay here, especially during a Blues weekend!!
The cotton industry has come a long way ! Gone now are the share croppers, the hard labor, the singing in the fields, gone, but never forgotten, the memories can never be erased.....
Ever hear of Leland, Mississippi!?! Me either but it is the home of Jim Henson aka Kermit the Frog!!!!
We drove out of our way to Indianola because......for some reason this part of the Delta region is known for their Tamales. Nobody seems to know why, it's not a cultural thing? Lennie did some research & we were set out for Doe's restaurant. The have such a reputation for great tamales even President Bill Clinton has eaten there. When we arrived.....we sadly discovered they didn't open till 5:00pm for dining, all we could get now was carry-out!?! We passed on the carry out, we had already envisioned sitting down enjoying home made tamales! We wound up getting a quick bite to eat at SONIC!!!<-No picture!!!!
You'll have to take my word for it, the museum was great, a lot of Blues History in there!
Well....Otis has called, he thinks we've been gone from the RV long enough for one day!
Poor Otis he does have to spend more time than he likes alone in the RV while we're gone checking out Blues History!!!
It's a buffet & Lennie said we are treating ourselves to a one day early anniversary luncheon!!!! Everything was good, the chicken & dumplins were GREAT! Even Otis benefited from this lunch!!!
I ate so much I wasn't sure if I could waddle back to the car. You notice Lennie never has that problem!?!
Some interesting sights on the way back to the RV......
Sometimes I think I take too many pictures, then sometimes I think I don't think I take enough, there are sooooo many cool things out there just waiting to be captured by the camera lense!
Seems we got back to the RV just in time to rescue Otis from a storm!!!!
Sorry Otis we're only here for a break.....tonight is the pre-show for The Biscuit, & it's FREE & we're going!
We lucked out! The rain stopped we're on our way!
Standing in line to purchase our Blues T-shirts! I chose one that had a turtle playing in the band, of course!
