Music in Memphis~~The Peabody Ducks~A friend from the past!

Wednesday October 1, 2014 Wow....October already!?! This is the last month of our summer road trip. This morning is the same morning as all mornings, for Lennie that is!!! He's out walking, Otis & I are back in the bed snoozing!!!
Sunrise over the Mississippi
(pictures taken by Lennie!)

By the time Otis & I get up, it's time for breakfast, & then our routine begins! Another hot day, so we don't leave till after lunch....for Otis' sake!!! Today we're going downtown Memphis to check out a few sights!
First stop, the ROCK & SOUL Museum!!! We've been there before, but all good things are worth repeating!

From the parking lot garage, I view my first signs of Music in Memphis!

Let's go inside & get this show started!!!

To begin, you see a short movie hi-lighting the birth of Rock & Soul. As you enter the museum, you receive a head set. Now you're on your own. You can view each exhibit, listen to the audio information on each exhibit, & a song or songs from the era pertaining to the exhibit can be listened to, or.... you can skip the song  & move on to the next exhibit. SERIOUSLY???? Now who would skip the song!?!There's no time frame inside this museum, you can take your time(you need a lot of time to enjoy everything here!) no one rushes you.
The museum shows the beginning of Rock & Soul music, dating back to black & white share cropper working the fields together, & singing together!

American Bandstand era

The Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich era.....

Costumes worn by performers. Note the juke box, several "OLD TUNES" on this juke box inviting you to sit a spell & listen to your memories!
The protest era

I can't believe we reached the end.......

Outside, we went from a sunny day to now overcast??? It's not suppose to rain till tomorrow!?! We're going to walk down to Beale Street, &  hope the weather doesn't send us home too soon!

It's fun to walk along Beale Street, you can hear music in every doorway. At night time....Beale Street is REALLY jumping!

It's starting to rain, but we know a dry place, with an added attraction, the Peabody Hotel, the added attraction.....? The Peabody DUCKS!!!!

The Ducks at the Peabody Hotel have been marching twice a day from their "Penthouse" atop the roof of the Peabody, to the lobby fountain since 1930. The DUCK MASTER today was one of 5 Duck masters since this tradition started.
This twice daily  DUCK MARCH really draws a crowd!
Preparing the Ducks for their march!

Duck fans!!!!

The moment we've ALL been waiting for....the Duck March music begins......

& the Ducks march out of the fountain

back up the elevator to their penthouse, known as The                                                                                                                                                                                         Duck Palace!!!!!

Time to go, Otis is waiting!

We're home, Otis is happy, EXCEPT.....
NO MCDOUBLES this time! Maybe Otis isn't spoiled!?!

Thursday October 2, 2014 Even tho we're staying in West Memphis, Arkansas, we've been doing most our sightseeing in Memphis, Tennessee, but today we're going to venture even further! We're going to Saltilo, Mississippi to see our dear friend Sydney Phillips! Otis is coming with us, but I bet Otis forgot Sydney had 2 dogs & one of them....Tony, is a black lab! Otis has "a thing" against black labs! Our plans are to take Sydney out to lunch, that means we need to take off  right after breakfast.
Sydney & Jim were great friends during our Mac Tools & Matco Tools days. Sydney lost Jim 3 years ago, we lost a good friend when Jim left this good earth. Sydney had her two dogs in another room, so Otis could hear them, but couldn't see them! After some visiting, we left to take Sydney to Cracker Barrel.Much to Otis' surprise....he had to stay at the house. He's still wondering where those "dog voices" are coming from!?!
We always enjoy Cracker Barrel!
After lunch Sydney took us on a tour through town to see some of the recent tornado damage. Then we went back to her house for more visiting. this time Sydney let her dogs out! Otis was shocked to see Tony!!! Tony was a little too anxious to see Otis, so Sydney put Tony back in the house & he had to watch everything from the patio doors!
It's suppose to rain & then storm later on tonight, we wanted to head back before the rain, besides the fact Lennie wanted to stop at Camping World, oh so did Otis, one of very few stores that allow dogs inside! We said our good-byes to Sydney & headed off to Camping World, then the RV park!
This is a brand new Camping World

& Otis can't wait to go check it out!

Looks like we've made a selection!

We're done, let's go! Sure enough we drove right into rain, for quite awhile & then the sun came out & so did a rainbow!

The only thing is.....the rainbow was just the calm before the storm!By the time we went to bed that night we were under a tornado watch! The wind was blowing, rain was pouring, thunder & lightening to boot, all the activity making it necessary for Otis to sleep with us! Because of the wind, we brought our slides in(didn't want to lose an awing topper), & we were all snug as a bug in a rug!!!!
