Thursday & Friday May 19-20, 2016- These 2 days, mainly due to Otis' bum leg & the Dr's orders for bed rest, no jumping & NO HIKING......we didn't do anything! On Thursday morning, the Vet Office that cared for Otis after his accident called me to see how Otis was doing/feeling! Later that day the Vet herself called us with the same inquiry. At this point Otis wasn't eating yet so I hadn't gotten any drugs into him yet???? He was just gimping around looking so pitiful. He does have sad eyes! Lennie was being the perfect caregiver carrying Otis to potty, up & down the RV steps, back to the bed at night. I almost wanted to fall down myself to see if Lennie would give me the same loving attention!
The weather too played a factor into our doing nothing. Otis picked a good day to be hurt, dreary, dreary day & on Friday rain, rain, rain all day from a drizzle to downpours. A good day to do laundry. You're probably wondering why I had to do laundry already since Lennie packed himself 30 T-shirts, etc,etc....!I didn't over pack on towels & such so it was time to do laundry!!!After doing the laundry, we packed Otis into the back of the car to go to the post office in Maggie Valley.
We are mailing a deposit on a campground that charges $1.00 a day for pets??? Lennie explained to the gal that right now we only had a partial dog as he fell & he's walking around on only 3 legs. She didn't realize Lennie was being facetious & told him, "Just a minute, let me talk to the manager & see if he will waive or discount the pet fee for you...." Lennie quickly told her he was just kidding, got the mailing information we needed & headed into town to the Post Office. That was the highlight of our day! Otis is showing an interest in eating, therefore his breakfast & dinner has been spiked with his dog drugs!!!
Tomorrow we leave Creekwood Farms Campground, this time here, we didn't need a creek site as we were only able to sit out & enjoy the surrounding 2 times. That's a chance every traveler takes.....we can't control the weather!
We are meeting our Florida Discovery Sunshiner friends, Ira & Lee Minor at the campgrounds in Louisville. Ira & Lee have already been at Otter Creek going on 10 days as they have family in the area & were there to attend their grand daughter's High School graduation. We.....well it wasn't really out of our way as we continue a path toward Illinois so why not stop in & spend the night with friends!?!
We prepare to leave, notice Otis isn't as "READY" as he usually is when we take off? Poor little boy!
And we drive for miles & miles in the morning fog.......
"Hello Tennessee!"
I see it's foggy here too!
We start again & we not only have fog, but also rain!
and let's not leave out road construction!!!!
At 2:37pm exactly as our GPS lady promised, we pulled into Otter Creek!
After all his military years, all his war battles, George Patton died as the results of car accident, when his neck was broken after a head on collision in this very Cadillac......
Hey.....GOT GOLD!?!
Back at the RV, Lee & Ira had prepared a wonderful dinner of chili over rice with cornbread!
Ira was showing Lennie dessert before we'd even eaten dinner!
After we filled our bellies, we went outside to relax. Ira has a portable fire pit. It was nice as it had cooled off in the evening. Lee brought out dessert! HUGE glazed donuts from the bakery YUM YUM in town. They were yummy indeed!!!

We pull up to the office to connect the car. No one is checking in this time of the morning, so we're not in any one's way....
The fog is really heavy as we take off.......And we drive for miles & miles in the morning fog.......

Getting closer to our destination. According to our GPS Lady we should reach the campgrounds just after 2:30pm
This rest area means 2 things! Potty breaks all around & lunch time!!!We start again & we not only have fog, but also rain!

Ira & Lee met us at the gate to lead us in, first time for us, they come here whenever visiting their daughter & family.
It was quite a drive into the campgrounds, I kept wondering it there was a campground back there or not!?!
There was & it was HUGE!!!! It wasn't raining now....but it had been raining there for several days & it was really wet!
Hey! I know these guys....Ira & Lee Minor!!!
Soon as we were done setting up, Ira wanted to take us sightseeing, so to speak! They wanted us to go see George Patton's Museum, as it was $$$ FREE $$$ & closed at 5:30pm. Being our only day, & FREE is always good we set off!
This old barracks, wasn't open, but you could peek in the windows to get an idea of how the soldiers lived together.
Lennie & Ira were both in the Army, both had been in Viet Nam(not the same year) they had a lot of interesting stories to tell!!!!

When Lennie & I are traveling quite often we find ourselves at Presidential Libraries,Museums, we've even been on a few ships..... When going to these places I am amazed at how little history I really knew, or remembered! Makes me wished I would have paid more attention in school. Like this museum for instance, I never knew George Patton died as a results of injuries he sustained in a head on car collision....You're never too old to learn....!

Otis still not feeling up to snuff. He got his fair share of sympathy from Ira & Lee as he limped around on 3 legs!
Time to take Otis home to bed! See everyone in the morning!!!
Glad you guys met up, always nice spending time with friends along the way. Sounds like you had a good partial day of sightseeing. Understand Ira and Lee are heading south while you are going to IL. Safe travels and will see you up the road later on in our travels. First have to get AK out of the way. Leave 5/29 for a land tour and then off to the cruise ship. Feeling excited.....
ReplyDeleteIt is fun seeing people we know, of course, Lennie knows no strangers, a little different for me! Enjoy Alaska, I can't wait to view your Photo book!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little OCD...Have already picked out my book and stuck a few pages in it, or course, no photos yet. I know I am a bit over the top.....
