May 16, 2015 Saturday- This morning our grandson, Brett Tomter is a graduating senior of Oswego High School. It's a large graduating class, over 650 students. Some of the other high schools have been holding their large graduations at NIU's Convocation Center. Brett's graduating class will be the first time Oswego High has used NIU's Convocation Center. The graduation was taking place at 11:00am, the doors of the center opened at 10:00am, of course the graduates had to be their early, needless to say everyone went on their own as it was open seating.
Lennie & I got to the Convocation Center about 10:30am, the place was already packed! We weren't too fussy about where we sat, all the good seats were already taken! We just grabbed 2 seats & sat down!!!I text Kevin to see where everyone else was sitting, he told me where but I never saw them, Lennie did, but then Lennie always says that HE has the eyes in the family & I have the ears!?! It's almost time for the graduation to start!
Then......the students start parading in!
Then the commencement starts, the Pledge of Allegiance, the school staff introduction, songs by the school band, songs by the school choir, the different student achievements,speeches... my rump is starting to get sore!
FINALLY...... roll call!!! I keep checking the program, Brett is a Tomter, so he's close to the bottom of the list!! When the last of the sitting students stand to get ready to walk across the stage, I get my camera ready.
I'll be lucky if I can actually pick out which student is Brett! I hear them call, Brett Alan Tomter & I zoom in, & snap! There he is...... |
After the ceremony, a mass crowd of students, & spectators gathered at different spots for pictures & whatever else!!! Tammy had text me that Brett would be waiting at "the Bell" for anyone wanting to take pictures. I guess the Bell was the place to meet, everyone, well maybe not EVERYONE but....a lot of students wanted their picture taken at the bell!
They didn't actually get their diplomas till after they turned in their gowns!
When the students were done getting their pictures taken, they pulled the rope to ring the bell!
Truly a day of Celebration!!!
Congratulations to the graduates. Wendy, you look beautiful. Love the color of your outfit too.
