August 1, 2013 Last sightseeing day.....

Good Morning August, I can't believe you're here already????
The U.P. is home to all but one of Michigan's waterfalls! There are more than 300 falls scattered across the U.P. ranging in size from under 5 feet to 48+ feet vertical drops. Almost all require hiking to reach, but there are paths(several barrier-free) to some of the most popular. This morning after our regular breakfast routine we are going out to see some waterfalls!!! First we need gas, & a short distance from the gas station is the laundromat where I lost my neon green footie! Just out of curiosity we stop, I go in & check their LOST & FOUND & there on the bottom of the basket is my neon green footie!!! YAY!!!!
Our destination to view falls today is the town of L'Anse, Lennie has researched & there are several falls to see in the area. The first falls we're going to see are Slate River Falls. The directions to the falls sound intriguing, down a road for 11 miles, cross a bridge, & falls are on the right! But.....after we cross the bridge, the road to the falls is washed out! They've had too much rain in this area so we had to cross these falls off our list.... Our next falls is Canyon Falls located at Canyon Falls Roadside Park. One would think they were just stopping at the roadside park for lunch, so we did that!
Otis is impatient for the picnic!
Unless you're from this area, just pulling into the roadside park, you wouldn't know the beautiful Canyon Falls are down the path hidden from all the trees! I took soooo many pictures of these falls, it was hard to pick which ones to post!                              Let's start down the path!
Our walk toward the falls
gets better & better
then we reach the vertical drop!
It has a vertical drop of 5-20 feet.
I love those amber colored falls!(I took a lot more pictures here at Canyon Falls, but I can't post all of them!!!)
Our next falls, Silver Falls, once again we could not reach due to the condition of the road leading in to them!  We drove on to Power House Falls & the road in & out was a little iffy, but we took it! I told Len we need a jeep!!!
It got better the closer we got to the falls!
too bad we already had our picnic!
The last falls we viewed today, Falls River, were "DOWNTOWN"? Well that's what the directions said!Downtown L'Anse 2 blocks W of blinker light! We parked our car in the city park parking lot & took the path to find the falls.                          The path was a little rough!
Lennie & Otis, always in the lead spot the falls first!

These were nice cascading waterfalls!
With a vertical drop of 5-20 feet
I liked these falls a lot too!
But still partial to the amber colored falls!
As we walk back to our car, Otis wanted to play awhile in the park!
Not !!!
We had to take more than one picture, the first pose, Otis jumped right out the window!
That's it for scenery shots while visiting Houghton, Michigan. We're getting ready to leave Houghton, but we're not done visiting the U.P. yet, so hopefully more waterfalls to come!
After dinner we take Otis for his nightly walk. this may all seem routine but each night we seem to see a different view
Or the sunset at a different stage of setting.....
Just how many ways can you capture the sunset!?!

Tomorrow is our last day in Houghton, Michigan.....?

  1. Hmmmmmmm...who is having the most fun at the park? I think it's Wendy, not Otis!!! Or maybe it's Len. He did get to use the camera for once!!! HAHAHAHA.
    great sunsets..never too many shots.
