Today was far from our regular routine!?! What was it I was saying about Michigan weather!?! Yesterday I over dressed as it turned out to be a nice day. Proof of that, we didn't need our electric heater at bedtime, tho we did need our "FUZZY" heater(Otis)!!! This morning I was wishing we had the electric heater going!!! This morning, we're in no hurry to get going as for one day, we have to move 3 sites down! We knew when we came here we would have to move, so we were ready for it!
After our breakfast we made our big move!!! Then because we think it's cold out.....I am making chili for our dinner tonight! Lennie's in the shower as I start on the chili. Late start to the day, maybe too late cause I hear water & it's not the shower, it's raindrops on the roof! No sense rushing to make a picnic lunch & rush off, it's raining, so after my shower we figure we may as well just eat lunch in the RV! As least Otis is happy with the day so far!
Rain or shine if we're going to see anything we've got to get out there! Today we are cutting our sightseeing short due to a handicap & this time it's NOT Otis!!! It's our car! We noticed when we were at the Powerhouse Dam waterfalls that our car was getting warm, not quite overheating. That night Len added some anti-freeze to the car. Next time out, car getting warm again??? this time Len opened the hood & on closer inspection discovered EVERY SINGLE FAN BLADE was gone!?! WOW!!! Well they're just plastic, maybe they dry rotted over a period of time??? The rainy cool weather is a blessing in disguise for the car's sake anyhow! Tomorrow the car is going to be fixed. If we were home, Len would do it himself, but now it's easier to let a garage do the repair.
Since our sightseeing is going to be cut short due to weather & mainly our car, we don our raincoats & head out! First stop is right down the road, & we almost missed it's so hidden by the trees! Christmas Range Lights.Built in 1907, front & rear lights once used to guide ships into the shipping channel. The rear light was abandoned in 1969 & is now overseen by the US Forest Service.
Moving on, it's still raining....to Scott Falls
We had to walk across a little home-made 2 log bridge to be able to view these falls!
Our next falls to view are the Au Train Falls. These falls are sandwiched between a dam & a powerhouse. The stair step waterfalls are definitely worth the stop.
At first we just see the Upper falls, but we see people below & can't help but wonder how they got down there!?! We follow the winding road & discover 2 different parking areas to view the Upper & Lower falls. The lower falls are viewable by walking beyond the gate(closed to vehicles) to the end of the road, until you reach the Au Train River & the Lower Falls!!!
These next falls & our last falls for the day were just amazing. The MNA Memorial Falls.
Not just the falls itself but our walk to the falls, the rock formation surrounding the falls. I almost didn't go! It was wet, rainy A little slippery & to tell you the truth....I was a little nervous about taking the hike! Lennie & Otis set out without me!
I had to hurry, as a family was coming & I know they didn't want to be stuck behind a slow-poke! (they don't know why I collect turtles!)
We tried to get Otis to pose in one of the holes in the rock formation!
Otis in NOT always agreeable with what we want him to do!!!
In spite of the rain, everything we saw today was beautiful, be it a waterfall
or rain droplets on a leaf......
or wild mushrooms growing on the side of a tree
it was all Nature at her best!
The only one who didn't fair too well in all this hiking in the rain was OTIS!!! He was soooooo wet & muddy I wouldn't even let his feet touch the floor in the RV, straight into the shower for that pup. that made him one unhappy dog!!!
The smell of chili in the crock pot was overwhelming when we walked in. Poor Otis had to smell that chili & still had to go straight into the shower!!! I even used the blow dryer on him! He was rewarded later, not just with a little bit of home made chili, but we let him sleep with us .....again!
Tomorrow we leave Munising & head over to Iron Mountain, Michigan!!!
