October 25th-27th, 2013 Savannah, Georgia Our Last Stop!!!

Why does it seem the mornings we leave for our next destination arrive earlier than the other mornings!?! It feels like I just went to bed & now we're having coffee & breakfast preparing to take off for our next & last destination of this years travel season. With breakfast done, & dishes, slides pulled in, it's time for me to walk Otis. Lennie disconnected everything last nigh, so all we have to do is connect the car & we're off!!!It's a chilly morning, probably frost on the pumpkins as we take off!
"Good-bye N. Carolina"
Our next destination is Savannah, Georgia. We thought about just going straight to Florida after leaving N. Carolina but Savannah is on the way, & a city we both enjoy visiting, soooo why not!?!
We drive till it's lunch time at a rest area, continue driving & then.....there's our exit!
I never drive, but the riding still makes me tired!
Our destination for today is Savannah Oaks RV Resort in Savannah, Georgia.
Right away I like the Spanish moss (which is neither moss or Spanish!) hanging from the Live Oak trees.
We have a nice level pull through site. Setting up goes easy!
Len gets the grill out, we're having steamed fish for dinner. I start the rice.....
I'm not sure what's going on here!?! ON THE TABLE is once place Otis is NOT allowed & never goes??? Maybe he's asking Lennie to take the sweater off of him since it is warmer here? Note the place mat Otis is sitting on, IS Lennie's!!!
When Lennie checked in at the office he noticed they had Tour availability through the Old Town Trolley Tours. After dinner & we walked Otis, Lennie walked up to the office & bought our tour tickets!I guess we know what we're doing tomorrow!!!
The shuttle bus is picking us up at 9:00am ! Breakfast is early, Otis' morning  walk is early! It's just a normal start for Len, he likes early! Our shuttle driver's name is Eric, there's 4 of us waiting for him to pick us up!
We're the first 4 on the bus, we stop at 4 more Hotels, the bus is almost full now! Eric drives us to downtown Savannah to the Welcome Center, where our whole busload transfers to the Sightseeing Trolley Bus.
This is a hop on-hop off trolley tour. We drive the whole loop listening to the historic points of interest Savannah has to offer.
The Riverfront.
The Waving girl.
Carriage rides!.
The Candy Store!!!
After seeing some of the sights we hopped off the trolley for lunch!!! We went to Paul Deen's restaurant.
.

Lady & Sons
There was no watching what we ate today!!! We had the buffet & it was sooooo good!
I swear after eating lunch....I felt like I wouldn't have to eat again for at least 2 days.But....our tour shuttle bus picked us up at 4:30pm, we were back at the RV park by 5:30pm......& at 6:00pm I was preparing our dinner! A PIZZA!
Now I'm REALLY stuffed!!!!

Today is our last full day of our weekend in Savannah. It is also our last day our our road trip...
We started the day by visiting the local flea Market. It advertised over 400 Vendors, I'm thinking the season must be over for the flea market, we didn't see much,
but it did have some interesting decor!
This might have been the best deal at the Flea Market!?!
Then.....we did something we haven't done in awhile! We had FAST FOOD for lunch!
& I had my favorite
The Swiss Mushroom Burger!!!!
We're going go back to the RV pick up Mr Otis & take one last look at Historic Savannah!
Interesting walk, & the Spanish moss really adds to the ambiance...
.
The movie, From The Garden Of Good & Evil was filmed here at Bonaventure Cemetery.
King Tisdell Cottage

Cathedral of St John the Baptist
.
.
Colonial Park Cemetery
There's a lot of history buried in the cemetery.
including the duelist graves, where men actually solved their differences with a gun!
Federal Troops took over the cemetery during the civil war. Out of boredom they mused themselves by toppling headstones, changing dates on headstones & even unearthing the dead.
When the Union soldiers left, there was no way to determine who was buried where. all the headstone that were maliciously overturned or damaged, were laid side by side along the back wall of the cemetery.
The Union General William Sherman spared Savannah from a fiery grave by presenting her to the Nation as a Christmas gift....

You need more than a weekend to see & do all that Savannah has to offer, unfortunately we're heading back to Florida.
that only means we'll have to make another trip here to Savannah!
We can't leave Savannah without a little something SWEET!

Oh Yeah....this will work!

Good-bye Savannah, until next time! You're not that far away from us, we'll be back!
Back at the RV we having bratwurst for dinner.

Tomorrow we leave here for our home in Viera,Florida......

October 22nd-25th, 2013 Maggie Valley, North Carolina

This morning we are leaving "Mayberry" heading for Maggie Valley! I started this morning with quite a surprise! The last few nights it has been cold enough to use the electric heater, which dries out a person's nasal passages....I wake up so stuffed up! This morning I was soooooo stuffy! I gave my my nose an extra hard honking, & then I saw some blood on my Kleenex,& my shirt, but no big deal? I joined Len in the kitchen for our breakfast treat, muffins we bought from the bakery in historic Mayberry!
After our yummy treat, I went to take my shower. When I gave my nose that extra hard honking,I must have broken a small blood vessel, cause when I got in the shower, the nose floodgates opened wide! Even without my glasses on I could see the blood on the shower floor! I tried holding my head back to stop the bleeding, but then I felt like I was choking on my own blood as it ran down my throat!!!! HELP!!! Long story short, it finally stopped bleeding, but while we were driving I was holding a paper towel over my nose, Otis did NOT want to sit on my lap! He kept saying to Lennie, "Who is that masked stranger"!?!
I missed some great morning photo shots of the clouds over the mountains because I could not hold my paper towel & control my camera at the same time!  The scenery was still good when I finally had two free hands!
.
The leaves should be peak color
while were here.
We arrived at our destination, Creekwood Farm RV Park.
.
We've been here before, it's one of our favorite RV parks.Last night our plans were to spend a week here. As of this mornings weather report, we are only going to stay here 3 days as temperatures are suppose to be in the teens at night & only in the 40's during the day. that's not FUN weather!!! I guess we'll be looking fast these next 3 days!
Our camp site
The view behind our site...
.
.See why we like it here!
I went  to the park laundry do a couple loads, Lennie did all the set up inside & out. Otis just waited patiently! It's hard to believe that with this short sleeve weather, it's going to be much colder later in the week???

What a difference a day makes! That short sleeve weather is no more! Today as we drive about we are wearing sweatshirts & jackets! We stop first at a Farmers Market. (I'm out of tomatoes, MURIEL!!!!)
A total stranger helped us out here!?!
We've been to this Farmer's Market before, in warmer weather & all the doors are wide open! But today all the outside shop doors were closed!
Looks like Mr Otis is waiting  in the car!
.
after checking out EVERYTHING, we bought tomatoes & apples. Now we have another purchase in mind.....
LUNCH!
this place may not look like much, but it has the best BBQ in Asheville, N.Carolina, that's my opinion anyhow! This place, 12 Bones, always draws
a crowd, I grab a seat while Len places our order! Even tho it's busy, it doesn't take long before our meal is before us! I had pulled pork, sweet potatoes & CORN PUDDING! I think I ordered that the last time we were here!?!
With the important activities (LUNCH) out of the way it's time to go enjoy the scenery of the
Blue Ridge Park Way!
.
A beautiful Drive!
.
.
.
.
there are too many pictures to post!
Before heading back to the RV, we wanted to take one more drive......
in hope of seeing some wildlife, but all we saw was.....
TURKEY'S !!!
We might have seen a nice sunset too except for the fact it was so cloudy....

Back at the RV we're having "Canned Soup" for dinner! Not your typical canned soup! Before we left this morning, we set the crock pot on LOW, put in an envelope of onion soup, some water, a can of diced tomatoes, corn, northern beans, added onions, seasonings, rice, smoked sausage, chicken, stirred it all together & when we got home added a salad & it was dinner!!! It was pretty tasty for a bunch of cans mixed together!!!
Record cold tonight for this area.. Len actually turned the furnace on!!!
It's either cold outside or thunder storming for Otis to be able to join us in the bed!
It's cold, Lennie even shut the water off & disconnected the hose.
Come morning Lennie wasn't the only guy out there reconnecting their water hoses! Course Len has this all done & showered before Otis & I even think of opening an eye! by 8:00am we're up ready to join Len for coffee & oatmeal, just what you want in your tummy on these cold mornings!!!
Today we're going to drive to Smokey Mountain National park & surroundings! But before I even get dressed, I make our dinner! I make chili & put it in the crock pot. It'll hit the spot after a day of leaf peeping!
This morning our car hit a big mile stone!!!!
Poor "Misty" I know she's tired of hauling us around! And check out this mornings temperature!!! Okay, time to put more miles on "Misty"!
On our way to leaf peep, we pass through the Indian tourist town of Cherokee. It wasn't really lunch time, but we stopped to eat early so we wouldn't ruin our dinner! We stopped at Paul's Family Restaurant. Driving by,I didn't know we were going to stop there, as I read the marquee, Indian tacos caught my eye!.
.
We turned around & pulled into Paul's for lunch & I had the Indian Tacos! (I'm starting to miss the Thanksgiving Dinner sandwiches!)
After lunch.....SCENERY TIME!!!
.
The leaves were great!
All the scenery was great!
.
.

We drove through the tourist town of Gatlinburg. I wanted to get some postcards but.....Gatlinburg was SOOOOO crowded, we didn't want to pay to park just so I could grab some postcards! We drove on to Pigeon Forge
where the traffic wasn't near as heavy & parking was readily available! We stopped at a tourist shop so I could get postcards & of course, look around a little! But just a little cause we wanted to get back on the scenic highway!
We made up for those Turkeys yesterday! Look what we saw today!!!
.
both sides of the road were loaded with pulled over photo seekers!
Who wouldn't want a picture!?!
Lennie & Otis waited in the car as I snapped away. I could hear Otis getting a little verbal! Time to drive on!
Our last stop for tonight, & this trip, called SOCO Falls. Even Otis enjoyed this view!
Or did he!?!

Time to go home, I smell our chili!
Chili's ready & it does smell good, but first Otis needs to go for a "serious" potty walk! It is getting even cooler out so Otis gets dressed for the weather!
.
I'll wear the sweater, but I don't want that stupid hood over my head!

.Time to go in for chili! Once again Len has disconnected the water hoses. Snow flurries are in the forecast for this area! Tomorrow morning we are leaving. After a quick overnight stop in Savannah,Georgia, we are Florida bound.......
