October 9th-15th,2013 Vermont....Restful & Relaxing!!!!

It's the evening of October 15th. This was our last full day in Vermont. It was just the perfect day for leaf  peeping, the leaves were all aglow with just the right amount of sun shining down on the tree covered mountain tops. Unfortunately we could not take advantage of the sun shining on the mountain tops, today was our last day, which meant RV cleaning & laundry! But I'm way ahead of myself....
Let's go back to the morning of October 9th(our 37th anniversary!) we're pulling out of Shady Acres in Carver,Massachusetts.
"Come on dad, Me & Flat Stanley are ready to                                                                                                                                         roll!"
Our destination is, Pownal, Vermont at Pine Hollow Campground. It's a beautiful ride over from Carver. The fall foliage is at peak! One of the last towns we drove through in Massachusetts was.....FLORIDA, Massachusetts!!!!
This was too funny!
We stopped for lunch at a very scenic pull-over. Very picturesque, I think more people were taking pictures than having lunch!
& this was just the beginning of Vermont picture taking!
Soon we arrived in Pownal at Pine Hollow Campground. It may be the prettiest campground we've stayed in this year!?!
I think we're going to like it here!
We arrived at the Campground it the middle of what is going to be a very busy weekend. Between Leaf Peepers, Columbus Day & Canadian Thanksgiving, the campground is full!
The town of Pownal, well.....there was no real town, except they did have a post office, but it close by several other interesting & historical towns such as Bennington, Manchester, & Arlington in Vermont & Lenox & Stockbridge back in Massachusetts. That's the thing about these New England states they're so close you can drive back & forth in & out of one another.
We really enjoyed the state of Vermont. Our time here was of relaxation. We weren't on a planned schedule running from one tourist sight to another, which is not to say we didn't go sight seeing! This time our sight seeing was natural, beautiful & free to enjoy! Occasionally we did run into a point of interest that wasn't natural, but historical, & well worth a looks see!
We saw a variety of sights during our stay here in Vermont.I hope you enjoy our trip to Vermont as much as we did!
A few....
of the Covered Bridges
in Bennington,Vt
Bennington Battle Monument 1891

The Old First Church
Robert Frost is buried in the cemetery adjacent to the church.
In the little town of Manchester, I had my
3rd (well...just a half!)Thanksgiving Dinner sandwich with a bowl of split pea soup! Did I mention I love those sandwiches!?!
A picture around every corner!
We stopped at a pumpkin farm during one of our drives!
I think Otis wants a pumpkin
but.....
he didn't get one!
The foliage was just beautiful, tooooo many pictures to post! Some people even added some humor to the beauty!
Moon over Miami!?!

Shelburne Falls, Mass.
.
The Bridge of Flowers was a beautiful memorial tribute erected for the Veterans of Shelburne Falls.
.
A beautiful walk across the bridge!
.
.
.
I can't stop taking pictures!!!!
We had lunch in Shelburne Falls where I had my 4th Thanksgiving Dinner Sandwich! I hope they have these sandwiches in Florida!!!

So I don't know if Lennie is spoiling the dog, or if Otis is helping Lennie plan another day of Leaf Peeping!?!
.
A few years ago our grandsons, Jacob & Reese got the opportunity to stay at this camp in Lenox, Mass while their mom was the camp nurse! Since we were so close here in the Berkshires, we looked it up, &.......well here we are!!!!
.
Stockbridge, Mass.
One of Norman Rockwell's studio's
Said to be his favorite art studio
.
You might think we ran out of fall sights to enjoy in Massachusetts & Vermont because the end of our visit here, we drove back to New York, Albany to be exact, to see
the Capital Building &
the Governor's Mansion. (the neighborhood around the Governor's Mansion was a little iffy!)

Now our time is up here in at the Pine Hollow Campground & Vermont. The once full campground is now down to one camper! Us!!!! Lennie & I are the only ones here!?!
Talk about Only the Lonely!
.
Silently beautiful!
.
We told Otis it was time to get ready, tomorrow was shove-off. I think he got over excited about leaving!

He's excited because we told him we're heading to Intercourse, Pennsylvania. We've been in Amish country before with Otis & the horse & buggies clomping down the street really get Otis stirred up!
Lennie's looking forward to fried chicken Amish style, & I'm hoping to find a good deal on some material!
Good-bye Vermont! We enjoyed your fall foliage, your history, & the chance to relax!
