October 25th-27th, 2013 Savannah, Georgia Our Last Stop!!!

Why does it seem the mornings we leave for our next destination arrive earlier than the other mornings!?! It feels like I just went to bed & now we're having coffee & breakfast preparing to take off for our next & last destination of this years travel season. With breakfast done, & dishes, slides pulled in, it's time for me to walk Otis. Lennie disconnected everything last nigh, so all we have to do is connect the car & we're off!!!It's a chilly morning, probably frost on the pumpkins as we take off!
"Good-bye N. Carolina"
Our next destination is Savannah, Georgia. We thought about just going straight to Florida after leaving N. Carolina but Savannah is on the way, & a city we both enjoy visiting, soooo why not!?!
We drive till it's lunch time at a rest area, continue driving & then.....there's our exit!
I never drive, but the riding still makes me tired!
Our destination for today is Savannah Oaks RV Resort in Savannah, Georgia.
Right away I like the Spanish moss (which is neither moss or Spanish!) hanging from the Live Oak trees.
We have a nice level pull through site. Setting up goes easy!
Len gets the grill out, we're having steamed fish for dinner. I start the rice.....
I'm not sure what's going on here!?! ON THE TABLE is once place Otis is NOT allowed & never goes??? Maybe he's asking Lennie to take the sweater off of him since it is warmer here? Note the place mat Otis is sitting on, IS Lennie's!!!
When Lennie checked in at the office he noticed they had Tour availability through the Old Town Trolley Tours. After dinner & we walked Otis, Lennie walked up to the office & bought our tour tickets!I guess we know what we're doing tomorrow!!!
The shuttle bus is picking us up at 9:00am ! Breakfast is early, Otis' morning  walk is early! It's just a normal start for Len, he likes early! Our shuttle driver's name is Eric, there's 4 of us waiting for him to pick us up!
We're the first 4 on the bus, we stop at 4 more Hotels, the bus is almost full now! Eric drives us to downtown Savannah to the Welcome Center, where our whole busload transfers to the Sightseeing Trolley Bus.
This is a hop on-hop off trolley tour. We drive the whole loop listening to the historic points of interest Savannah has to offer.
The Riverfront.
The Waving girl.
Carriage rides!.
The Candy Store!!!
After seeing some of the sights we hopped off the trolley for lunch!!! We went to Paul Deen's restaurant.
.

Lady & Sons
There was no watching what we ate today!!! We had the buffet & it was sooooo good!
I swear after eating lunch....I felt like I wouldn't have to eat again for at least 2 days.But....our tour shuttle bus picked us up at 4:30pm, we were back at the RV park by 5:30pm......& at 6:00pm I was preparing our dinner! A PIZZA!
Now I'm REALLY stuffed!!!!

Today is our last full day of our weekend in Savannah. It is also our last day our our road trip...
We started the day by visiting the local flea Market. It advertised over 400 Vendors, I'm thinking the season must be over for the flea market, we didn't see much,
but it did have some interesting decor!
This might have been the best deal at the Flea Market!?!
Then.....we did something we haven't done in awhile! We had FAST FOOD for lunch!
& I had my favorite
The Swiss Mushroom Burger!!!!
We're going go back to the RV pick up Mr Otis & take one last look at Historic Savannah!
Interesting walk, & the Spanish moss really adds to the ambiance...
.
The movie, From The Garden Of Good & Evil was filmed here at Bonaventure Cemetery.
King Tisdell Cottage

Cathedral of St John the Baptist
.
.
Colonial Park Cemetery
There's a lot of history buried in the cemetery.
including the duelist graves, where men actually solved their differences with a gun!
Federal Troops took over the cemetery during the civil war. Out of boredom they mused themselves by toppling headstones, changing dates on headstones & even unearthing the dead.
When the Union soldiers left, there was no way to determine who was buried where. all the headstone that were maliciously overturned or damaged, were laid side by side along the back wall of the cemetery.
The Union General William Sherman spared Savannah from a fiery grave by presenting her to the Nation as a Christmas gift....

You need more than a weekend to see & do all that Savannah has to offer, unfortunately we're heading back to Florida.
that only means we'll have to make another trip here to Savannah!
We can't leave Savannah without a little something SWEET!

Oh Yeah....this will work!

Good-bye Savannah, until next time! You're not that far away from us, we'll be back!
Back at the RV we having bratwurst for dinner.

Tomorrow we leave here for our home in Viera,Florida......

  1. Really, Lennie....THE TABLE?????? Now we know, who spoils who!!!! LOL The Spanish moss is so beautiful...gives an eerie effect in the cemetery tho. The architecture is amazing in Savannah. Wendy, that pizza looks YUMMY!!! Love the way you sneakily include Flat Stanley into the Paul Dean photo. And such an innocent look on your face too!!!! HAHAHAHA.
