June 14th-June 15,2014 Long scenic drive & Father's Day Sunday

When we were out to dinner with our friends, Rich & Joan Dumont they told us they use to live in this part of Colorado & what a beautiful drive it was from Mountaindale RV Park to their town of Westcliffe,Colorado. This morning with nothing else to do, we are going to take that scenic drive, right after breakfast & Otis gets his potty walk! When we get the necessities out of the way, I pack us a picnic lunch & off we go! Westcliffe is only about 50-60 miles away but.....we're taking the long route!

We reach the town on Canon City, & a road called Skyline Drive.. At first we're hesitant to take this road, & then when we decided to do so, immediately we have no other choice as it's posted: ONE WAY NO U-TURN! I guess we're going on Skyline Drive!!!!

Now the decent down.....

& at the bottom of Skyline Drive in the town was a nice park! It's close enough to lunch time that we can unpack that picnic now!

                   Poor Otis, he had to be a dog today, I forgot to pack him some lunch meat!

 

After our lunch, we continued our drive, had we just known....we came to another park, we could have had our lunch with the Arkansas River running along side of us!?!

                                                                 Maybe next time!?!

The Arkansas River is not just a place to enjoy a picnic lunch, but real fun too!!!

             White water rafting is not on my bucket list, but I will have to admit it does look like fun!!!!

We still haven't gotten to Westcliffe yet!?! I think we're still on the way!?!

We finally made it!

This is a gift shop in Westcliffe, owned by good friends of Rich & Joan Dumont. I went inside to meet them & tell them we were also friends of Rich & Joan, but.....they were expecting a visit from their grand daughter so they were away from the shop busy doing things for the upcoming visit....I looked around their shop & a few other shops in town! while I was inside this little shop, Otis kept looking for me? when I came out....Otis went in? Maybe he had some shopping of his own to attend to!?!

Time to go back to Mountaindale RV Park, something special is going on at the RV Park tonight! But first ....it's pizza night for us! We make it low-fat but it's still good!!!

As I prepare to serve our pizza, I glance out the front windshield & notice our "friend" is visiting the neighbors again!

After our pizza, dishes done, Otis walked, we head to the Mountaindale  Office where all campers are invited to a Ice Cream Social!!!

                                 We had to pay $1.00 but the scoops were well worth a dollar!!

                                                         They even had entertainment!

It was a good day!!!

Sunday June 15, 2014  Happy Father's Day!!!! What do we have in store for today!?! Just like every morning, Lennie is out walking. I'm going to start....real soon!?! The week we've been here at Mountaindale RV Park, it's been REAL WINDY  outside, some days more so, but everyday we have a good wind blowing!
After his return, breakfast & Otis' potty walk....Lennie & I head out to the Colorado Springs FLEA MARKET!!!    NO OTIS!!! Which means we won't be gone for too long!!!

This is definitely a Flea Market with a view!

& unlike the 2 Flea Markets we went to in Santa Fe....this Flea Market had a lot of stuff, so let's go check it out!

Not only did this Flea Market have a lot of stuff to look at, it also had entertainment for the old & young!!!

They had a lot of stuff, but nothing we wanted, besides.....Otis is allergic to "FLEAS" so we didn't want to bring any home!!!

Today was Father's Day but Lennie surprised me by stopping to eat lunch out!!

We stopped at a Carl's Jr, similar to Hardees, but NO Swiss mushroom burger! but I did have a guacamole bacon burger!!!

& we didn't bring anything to Otis....we weren't gone that long!
Back at the RV we tried to sit out for awhile but the wind was really bad today! We went inside to relax, Lennie is going to put pork chops on the grill tonight, I can't wait! In the meantime.....just taking a break!

You have to look close because he blends into the couch so much, but Otis IS on the other end of the couch here!

Go ahead Lennie, it's Father's Day, take a nap if you want. I want you well rested so you can grill those pork chops tonight!!!
