Aug. 16th-Aug. 17, 2014 Preparing to leave Houghton-Good-bye Houghton~Hello Mears!

Saturday August 16, 2014 Today we prepare for tomorrow's departure. Can't believe I stated I was within walking distance to Hardees, Culver's & Walmart & I never walked to any of these places! Oh well, there's another adventure waiting at the next place or the place after that or somewhere down the road!!!Just a few things today, it's mostly our prep day!
After a quick breakfast we take a drive to Hancock to the  local Farmer's Market!!

It was a SMALL affair!
A few blocks from the Farmer's Market a Catholic Church was having a rummage sale, so we checked that out! They did have a Ladies bike with GEARS!!!! Only $15.00 too! Didn't buy anything at the rummage sale either!
This is the Bakery where Lennie brought home the surprise breakfast pastry! But today we've having lunch here because it's not only a Bakery it also serves PASTY"S!!!!! There are a lot of Pasty shops up in the UP, we've tried a few of them! they all sell the traditional pasty, there's a few variations of the pasty, have a breakfast pasty, some have a pizza pasty, but this place Roy's Bakery & Pasty.....of course they had the traditional pasty but they also had the Turkey Gobbler Pasty!!! That's a pasty with turkey, dressing, potatoes, cranberries & gravy ALL baked in a wonderful crust! it was sooooooo yummy!!!!
The only thing missing was the pumpkin pie!!!

We only need a few things at the store!

Tonight Lennie is grilling burgers, mushroom swiss burgers, so there HARDEES!!!! All week we've been here he's been hoping to photo the Ferry that goes to Isle Royale, a National Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The only way to reach this National Park is by Ferry & it's a 6 hour ride. As a rule, you can go over there  & if interested camp over there on the island. this weekend it was CLOSED to overnight camping due to BLACK BEAR activity! It cost $63.00 ONE WAY on the Ferry, no pets allowed (bear bait!?!) needless to say....we didn't go! But still Lennie wanted a picture of the Ferry....

Especially when it approached the bridge & the bridge had to open.

I'm glad he finally got to see the Ferry boat go through the bridge & I'm glad I finally got my Mushroom Swiss burger!

Tomorrow we leave Houghton ! So one more sunset!!!

Not a bad way to end the week!

Sunday August 17, 2014 We have a LONG ride ahead of us today, which means we're getting an early start! Yesterday when we were at Roy's Bakery & Pasty....we bought a "breakfast donut" to go! That donut along with coffee is our breakfast! Hurry up & potty Otis, we have a long drive ahead of us!
Otis said it was too early in the morning to potty, so let's just go straight to hook up!

We didn't have the room to hook up until we reached the pavilion. We're off, we're leaving Houghton, leaving the Upper Peninsula. Kind of sad.....we really like Michigan's UP! We have over a 500 mile drive ahead of us!
It's not even sun up yet!

It was a long drive! I finished a ruffle scarf I had been working on, & then knit another one to completion! We had lunch at a rest area & kept on pushing! Finally we're coming to the Mackinaw Bridge! We're leaving the UP going into lower Michigan!
It cost $14.00 to drive our car & bus over the bridge!

We arrived in Mears, Michigan at Silver Lake RV Resort & Campgrounds just about 6:00pm. You know what that means.....just in time for dinner!!!!

This is a REAL NICE RV/Campgrounds! This is a real tourist area with Silver Lake State Park & Silver Lake Sand Dunes, there's lots of fun to be had here from Jeep rentals to water sport rentals. This RV park is geared toward the the fun generation! We saw lots of jeeps & ATVs in the RV park! Lennie & Otis are always tired after a long drive....after dinner & Otis' nightly walk they both fall asleep while watching TV!!!

Tonight's sunset!

Okay boys, rest up....tomorrow we're going visiting!
