Thursday August 14, 2014 Once again at bedtime last night we had to pull that quilt up on the bed, & once again I woke up to the little electric fireplace going!!!! But I didn't wake up to another raspberry pastry!! Noooooo we had oatmeal, which I really enjoy, not like the pastry but.....I don't need the pastry!!!
Today was a slow take it easy day. We had no plans, I like it that way!!!! We were pretty lazy up until lunch time! Guess where our picnic spot is today!?! Right Here!
I was knitting a scarf, Lennie WAS reading his book until a nap, he'll deny, overtook him!!!! It was a nice day out!
After Lennie woke up, we put Otis inside while we went on a little bike ride. When we started out the bike ride, at first I couldn't hear my knees screaming!?! I was beginning to think maybe Lennie was right about my knees getting use to it the more I ride my bike!?!
approaching the bridge over the Portage Canal that takes you from Houghton to Hancock, Michigan, my knees are still good!
We're getting close to our turn around point & I hear my knees starting to complain!?! We reach our turn around spot & start the return trip to the RV Park, & now I know why my knees were doing so good!!! At the beginning of the bike ride the wind was behind me easing me along, now....the wind is in my face & my knees are screaming! I tell Lennie to go ahead & ride ahead of me, secretly I was thinking about walking my bike back to the RV park, but....I struggled along!?! When we got back we stayed outside awhile enjoying the nice weather & great view!
NOT!
Len grilled fish tonight, yummy! After dinner, dishes, & Otis' walk we sat outside until sunset! We could still use a few more clouds for a greater sunset effect, but we'll take it!
Friday August 15, 2014 This morning I woke up to the heater going! When I made the bed, I did not fold the quilt down, seems like we need it in the evenings! Quick breakfast of cold cereal, we plan on taking another peninsula drive today. Breakfast is over with, lunch is packed,Otis is walked....we're ready to go! When I came in from walking Otis Lennie let me know I forgot to put lunch meat, cheese, & mustard in the cooler! Good thing he double checked, a dry sandwich would not have been good!Okay I got those few forgotten picnic items.....now we're ready to go!
Today on our Keweenaw Peninsula drive, we're taking the Brockway Mountain Drive. This drive boasts panoramic views of the wild Keweenaw from forest covered mountains to the deep blue waters of Lake Superior. An added bonus will be some waterfalls along the way!!!
Next, another waterfall, Jacob's Falls
This is a 1954 Pontiac wagon (a work in progress, or maybe as is?) We saw the owners at several points of interests today, always getting a compliment on their cool car!
OOOH there's the beautiful blue waters of Lake Superior, & there's those miserable steps leading down to the beach.....
We reached Eagle Harbor where you can walk up an observation deck & get a good view of Lake Superior.
You can also catch a glimpse of the Lighthouse that they charge you $5.00 to go through & photograph, or.......
you can drive back out on the main road, go around the curve & get a great photo shot of the Eagle Harbor lighthouse!
I can't believe we haven't stopped for lunch yet! More waterfalls!
Must be lunch time now!?! No....not yet!
These falls were way down, the terrain was too rough(for old folks!) to walk, this was the best view I was going to get!
We came to the beginning of the road (the beginning of US 41) or the end if you were standing in Miami!
When I came back to the car from taking the picture of the light house, Otis, who had been riding in the back.....decided he was done being a back seat driver!Oh well, I guess he can ride with me, we're getting ready to head back to the RV Park!
When we got home, instead of our bike ride, I decided to give Otis a haircut! (My knees said THANK-YOU!)
Lennie took these pictures while I was grooming Otis.....It must have been Bring your Doggie to the Beach Day!?!
Okay....haircut's done, we can go in & start dinner, Lennie can coddle Otis some more while I go inside & see about starting dinner. After dinner & dishes more Otis time as we take him on his nightly walk!
These are Thimble berries, they are growing all along the entry drive at the RV Park, this is just one of the places they're growing! They grow wild up here. Everywhere we've been on, hikes, viewing water walls, picnicking.....you see people with their containers picking these berries. They look like the raspberry so I tried ONE....they were NOT for me!?! I might give the jelly a chance, but I'll not eat a Thimble berry in the raw again!!!!
That's it for tonight!!!!
