August 10-August 12, 2016-Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada~Historic Fort William~Rainy Day Blues~

Wednesday August 10, 2016- We pull out early this morning, not the crack of dawn but just before 8:00am. Len didn't get his walk in!😩 We had our oatmeal, but had our coffee to go. We should have stopped at a TIM HORTON'S for donuts!!!
                                                             Ready, Set......GO!
Our drive today is a little over 360 miles, that's American miles not kilometers!!!
OOOOOH.....good thing we don't do any night driving!!!
Our view out our window as we stop for lunch.
This is the Canadians version of Interstate.....
Thank goodness we have our boost back! Now we're getting some rain
Even in the rainy condition, the scenery ahead is looking pretty good!
                                                               Here's our destination!

This is a BIG PARK
Look at the size of the check-in office!
                                                                                 Our site!
These are TRAILER SHOWERS!?! So far I haven't seen any tents?
That's it! Just the 3 of us!!!
Otis loves this part, new park, all new sniffs, & he's going to take his time sniffing every one of them!
                                                                        Our view!

Walking back, I hope we don't get lost!
We finally found the cooler weather we've been looking for! As soon as we arrived I started making chili for dinner. It's simmering now, in a couple of hours we'll be having chili & hot dogs! There's even an extra hot dog for Otis!!
Thursday August 11, 2016- Oh boy.....Look what I woke up to today!!!! Well we've been wanting cooler weather! But what we didn't want is.....

A RAINY DAY!☔😖 Now what do we do in the rain....
Otis says, No PROBLEM for him, he knows what to do!!!
Rain never stops us from eating!

We got a break in the rain & since Lennie was unable to take his morning walk, he decided to walk now and......I WALKED WITH HIM!!!!!!!
After "OUR" walk to keep from getting cabin fever 😉 we went out to check out Thunder Bay, even tho it was still damp & gloomy out! We thought we'd just go for a ride, knowing we couldn't do too much because of the weather.....
Was Otis ready for a potty break? NOPE, we spotted some waterfalls & pulled into this park to get a closer look! (Otis did pee several times while we were here!!!)

This is the sight we saw from the highway causing us to pull into the park for a better look!
These are Throwback Falls. Funny name for waterfalls!?!

Not much farther past Throwback Falls is the Terry Fox Monument.Diagnosed with cancer at just 18, he lost a leg to cancer. While he was in remission he made it his goal to  raise money for cancer by walking across Canada(on one leg!) Unfortunately his cancer came back before he reached his goal, & he was forced to end his journey, near the spot where the monument now stands.Terry died of cancer on June 28, 1981.
It was starting to rain again, I guess we may as well go back to the campgrounds & watch it rain!!

Friday August 12, 2016- What a difference a day makes!!!! This morning I walk with Lennie again, wow....almost a habit!!!!It's NOT raining, still a little overcast but we're going to go out & see what we missed yesterday! Yesterday during a rainy evening, Lennie researched where we would go today!
Wait to you see these waterfalls!!!
I was going to say I took too many pictures at these waterfalls but actually.....I don't think anyone could take too many pictures of these waterfalls! My pictures don't do the waterfalls justice, you had to be there to see them, hear them & feel the mist! It was just a short walk to the falls with excellent viewing decks!
This is the most beautiful site I have seen during our trip to Canada!

                                                                         WOW!!!!!

What a picnic spot!
The story that goes with the Kakabeka Falls makes it even more exciting to view them! Ojibwa Indian chieftain White Bear & his wife had a daughter, Princess Green Mantel. When she was 17, she was captured by the Sioux Indians & later the Sioux tribe planned an attack on the Ojibwa tribe. They forced Green Mantel to lead them to her people. Pretending to betray her people, the princess carefully maneuvered her canoe down the river to the falls, & sacrificed her life to save her people. She went over the falls to her death, but so did the Sioux Indians who were so set on attacking her tribe. Legend says, if you look carefully, the figure of Princess Green Mantel, can be seen in the mist of the falls!

In his research, Len read you should not leave Thunder Bay without visiting the
Thunder Oak Cheese Farm! And so we did!!!

We bought some yummy cheese bites after sampling several cheeses!

                                                                          Moving on!!!
We are driving up to see Mt McKay

                                                                             Mt McKay
You can see the whole city below us!
Before we go back down we're stopping for gas on the Indian reservation. They have the cheapest gas around &......THEY pump it!?!

When we pulled out of the gas station.....we pulled right into a traffic jam!
We couldn't believe the traffic!

In front of us....

& behind us!?!
When we finally got through the traffic jam.....we couldn't see any cause for it???

Because yesterday was so overcast, we went back to the Terry Fox memorial to see if we could get a better picture.

The rock formation in the background is called The Sleeping Giant
We met this Canadian couple up at the memorial. They're laughing about our Health Care System, we're laughing about their taxes!!!!!

                                                            Our last stop for today!
                                                        We chose the shortest trail!
Be careful Otis......you're still limping from your first fall off a rock!

                                                                 So peaceful out here!

Time to go back to the Campgrounds, we've had a busy day!
Sightseeing wears me out!!!
This was our last night at Fort William, tomorrow morning we leave for our next destination!
