August 14-15, 2016~Wawa

Sunday August 14, 2016-This morning we are pulling out of Penn Lake Park, our destination is Wawa Campgrounds in Wawa-Ontario, Canada. Wawa is the Ojibwa Indian word for WILD GOOSE.
"Mom, Dad....come on, I'm ready to go!!!!"
                                                                  And we pull out!
                                               And NO surprise......CONSTRUCTION!
                                                         WHOA......that was close!
We're not driving straight to Wawa, because in doing research....we found out the REAL Winnie the Pooh, before Disney was from White River-Ontario, Canada & we have to drive right through White River to get to Wawa! We have to stop & see Winnie the Pooh's birth home!!!!
Funny how we arrived just in time to make lunch!!!

This is NOT an amusement park, it's just a memorial to the REAL Winnie the Pooh who was actually a female black bear cub! This black bear cub was bought from a trapper by a young Canadian Officer, Harry Colebourn, in the Canadian Army. He named the cub Winnie & she became the regiment's mascot. Winnie accompanied them overseas to England, but when Captain Coleburn got orders to to go to the front lines in France, he left his Winnie in care of the London Zoo. While at the zoo, Winnie was visited by many including author A.A. Milne & his young son, Christopher Robin. It was Christopher who added POOH to Winnie's name! A.A. Milne was so inspired by his son's fascination for Winnie he started writing stories about Winnie the Pooh. In the early 1960's The Walt Disney Company obtained the copyrights to the stories &......the rest is history!!!! We had to wait our turn to take pictures, a whole bus load of Pooh Fans were ahead of us! the 3rd weekend in August White River holds a Winnie the Pooh Hometown Festival with a parade, fireworks, dance & more. I can't believe I'm going to miss out on all that fun!?!
It was hard to pull myself away from all that Winnie the Pooh fun, actually Eyore was always my favorite & I kept looking for him! Won't be long & we'll be in Wawa.
That's Wawa off in the distance!
                                                        Here we are, Wawa Campgrounds!

We have a nice shady camp site!

This is a NICE campgrounds!  This is the Magpie River behind the campground. They had a dock for boaters!
After dinner, we rode through the town of Wawa just for a quick look around, because tomorrow we have a busy day planned!

Monday August 15, 2016- Needless to say Lennie has done his research & today we are going on a nice picnic that includes waterfalls!!!
It was a nice drive out to the waterfalls! this is called Magpie Valley.

As soon as we parked I was in awe!!!

What a picnic view!!!

Not as thunderous as the Kakabeka Falls, but still enjoyable!

We're going in for another angle of the falls.

                                               NICE!!!

We have another waterfall to go check out!

I think all waterfalls are awesome, no matter how big or how small!

We had perfect weather for sightseeing today!

We thought this might prove interesting!
We started down the path expecting to see some very old tombstones....
But the path kept getting more rugged & we decided to turn back! How could anyone be buried way back here?
We did see some "WILD LIFE" in search of the old cemetery!

Okay, we better see the town of Wawa before we have to leave!

Remember, Wawa is the Indian name for WILD GOOSE.

The town had a few geese!
                                                   This is Wawa
     This is "DOWNTOWN' Wawa!

Young's General Store in Wawa(we bought ice cream!)

I guess we've seen all that Wawa has to offer!!! Heading back to the campgrounds in preparation of leaving tomorrow!!!
