July 31-August 8, 2016-Still in Manitoba, Canada~Picnic & Ice Cream~French Quarter~Bike Ride~Last day Picnic

Friday August 5, 2016- This morning after his walk, after his coffee & oatmeal, Len jumped right into changing out that hose! He's been chomping at the bit ever since he realized we had a problem!
He's had that hose on & off to the point I think he could do it in his sleep!?!

After showers & Otis has his morning potty break.....we pack a picnic lunch. Before we can enjoy our picnic.....we take Otis to get his nails clips. Poor dog, it's been a rough week for him, a bath, a haircut, & now his nails clipped! No pictures here, too traumatic for Otis!?!  It only takes less than ten minutes for Otis to get his nails done, all that fussy for nothing! Okay now we can head to the river walk for our picnic lunch! We ride around Winnipeg a little, heading toward the river walk where we'll find a place to picnic, there are parks a plenty along the river walk!
This is our picnic park choice!

After our lunch we walked through the  park

                                                             down to the river walk

before heading back to our car....

At our parking spot, looked like maybe a wedding was getting ready to take place????
This may have been the Groom & Grooms men's ride?

We don't have time to wait to see if a Bride appears.....we've got another real point of interest to see!
This is The Bridge Drive-In! They only serve ice cream, in assorted flavors of course, but just ice cream treats. My guess is they must have a short season? They've been in business or 50 years! Lennie chose banana, I chose lemon ice cream!
                                                 The "BRIDGE" foot passengers only!
                                                            view from the footbridge
I see Otis favoring his paw, maybe we've over walked him today???

While we were on the bridge enjoying the views it started raining, pretty hard too! Hard enough that Lennie & Otis RAN back to the car!!! I can't run anymore & I won't melt!!!!

Going back to Bird Hill Park!
                                                     Tomorrow.....Otis is staying home!!!

Saturday August 6, 2016- This morning after breakfast.....we are going to a Farmer's Market. Lennie researched it the night before & it sounds like a big Market with lots of Vendors! Sorry Otis, we won't be gone too long!

                                                 WINNIPEG'S FARMER'S MARKET!

Sooooo yes it was good size! It had a variety of food & vegetable , plus some craft vendors.
Food Trucks

Lennie's checking out something, probably FREE SAMPLES!?!
Now that's a BUNCH of carrots!

look how excited he gets over a Sticky Bun!!!
They even had entertainment.....

Not sure what this was, a Tour Bus, or maybe a Day Trip from an Assisted Living Facility? The bus door opened & a group of "SENIORS" piled out & came to the Farmer's Market!?!
So, that was the Farmer's Market, Canadian Style!

We're going to take a ride & check out the French Quarter before OTIS "calls" us home! We're going to park at La Fourche (The Forks) as parking there is FREE on the weekends!
In the distant background you can see the Pont Provencher Bridge
When we walk over this bridge, we'll be in Winnipeg's French Quarter.
                                                           A Restaurant on the Bridge
                                                    Winnipeg's Skyline from the bridge

                                                 Saint Boniface  Cathedral est. 1908
                                                           Saint-Boniface Cemetery
                                                           Saint-Boniface Museum
Now a Museum, but originally a Nun's home. The Nun's took in & cared for the sick & elderly, taught school to children in need.
This plaque tells the story of the Nuns & the work they did here.
Although the French Quarter was interesting to walk around in, filled with history, it wasn't what we were expecting! We thought cute shops to poke around in, a nice restaurant to have lunch at, & end our day with a nice French Pastry! None of that was there! Soooooo we went back to The Forks, to that great food court! We're still walking & I have to go potty sooooooooooo bad I'm thinking any bush will do!!!!
Lennie's ahead of me of course, but each step I take I wonder if I'm going to make it to The Forks!?!
AAAAAAAH, the River Walk behind The Forks, but I don't want to look at water right now!!!!

First stop for me was the bathroom!!!! When we were here the other day the longest line at the Food Court was the line for Fish & Chips!  I sat down at a table while Lennie got in the line, once again the longest line at the food court! The wait in line was definitely worth it, great fish & chips but because Otis called while we were eating......we bought a little dessert treat to take home!

Otis was soooooo happy to see us when we got home, or at least Lennie!

That's one SPOILED dog!

Our lunch was on the heavy side, I didn't think we'd have dinner, but we did, brats on the grill

Otis ALWAYS goes out to help grill!

later....our little dessert treat!
It was called Apple Jack.
It was filled with apples & the crust was sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. The only thing missing was a scoop of ice cream!!!
Yummy way to end the day!!!

Sunday August 7, 2016- This is not a coffee & oatmeal morning, this is a pancake & sausage breakfast morning! We usually prepare them outside, & then just eat at the picnic table but....it's a little chilly outside this morning! Now.......to go work off our pancakes & sausage!

We're going to ride the same path Lennie has been walking every morning. It's a 4 mile ride.
                                                      Oh-Oh......should I be here?????

A view of the prairie grasses from the bike path
                                                                Fishing Anyone!

The Beach at Bird Hill Park
Looks like the beach was not just for human swimmers!?!

                                                 Oh Boy.......hope I'm ready for this......😓
Hey! The concession stand at the beach!
                                                                 Thanks Len!!!❤
Wish I had my suit on, this really was a nice swimming beach!

Well we made it, full circle!
                                                          Relaxing back at the site!
I know.....DON'T FEED THE ANIMALS, but what else was I going to do with the 2 leftover                                                                                            pancakes?????

                                                         They really liked pancakes!!!!
I bet I'm not the only one feeding these little critters!

Monday August 8, 2016- Today is our last day in Manitoba/Winnipeg.We're going to have our last picnic here today! We are going to Assinibone Park .
Our picnic didn't last long, it was so awful windy & the bees just wouldn't leave us alone!!! We pack up our lunch gear & head back to the car. This is a HUGE Park with several sections, including a zoo. Otis didn't want to see the Zoo, he doesn't believe animals should be in a cage!Instead we're going to check out the English & Sculpture Gardens.

I hope Otis appreciates  all this beauty.

This Lily Pad  Pond was part of the Sculpture Garden. Everyone sitting here, I mean everyone, was on their cell phones!!!! I think they were all hunting for Pokemon????

This is all the information on the artist that I couldn't remember after reading the plaque!
This one was easy....The Woodsman
I thought this one would be, The Bears!?!
Polar Bear and Cubs!!!

A little Garden Faerie house! "Anyone Home?"
A closer view of the Lily Pad Pond
(the cell phone addicts are still there!)
Look at this! An English Garden Cottage, looks like something straight out of a storybook!
TIME to go back to Bird Hill Park

I will admit we didn't go straight back to the park!!! We stopped at an Italian Gelato Shop for Gelato!!!
Back at the RV, we start breaking down our RV site. Tomorrow morning we leave........
