August 19-25, 2016-Next stop....Cheboygan~PICTURE PROOF!~Down days-Picnic 1 &2!~bike Riding~Mackinaw City

Friday August 19, 2016- This morning we are leaving Sault Ste Marie, Michigan our destination is Waterways Campground in Cheboygan, Michigan. It's only a drive of about 75 miles so we're not in a big hurry to take off, check out time here at the park is 11:00am. We start to take our walk(together again!)As we started out, it looked like rain, we decided to go back for our umbrellas. Len grabbed his out of the car, mine was in the RV. I stepped in the RV....Otis did not greet me as usual???
Within seconds I saw a VERY GUILTY Otis!!!!
                                                           Proof is in the picture!!!!
I wondered as we left if Otis got back up on the table!?! In the past I had seen evidence that he gets on the table, messed up place mats. This is something new for him? I don't know if he thinks he's a cat or what???? Since this was our last walk here, this time I brought my camera. We had seen this house, which seems empty, it looks so interesting, maybe even historical. I tried to Google it but found no information on it........

                                                                       We're leaving.......
Our last view of St Mary's River!
This was our turn around point on our walks....
                                                          Good-bye Sault Ste Marie

                                                                  Good-bye Soo Locks!

Our last view of the International Bridge, we won't be going over that bridge anymore this trip
but.......we will be going over the Mackinaw Bridge! $14.00 for RV & car!
                                                                That's good to know!
                                                                     Quite a bridge!

Now it seems we've gone country????

The country road led us back into the City of Cheboygan & our destination!

checking in at the office....
Waterways is a good name for this campgrounds, it was filled with boaters!!!

Saturday August 20, 2016-  Today.....we aren't doing anything!!!! Sometimes you just need a nothing day! Len discovered the TV antenna is broken, so he did fix that! I thought about cleaning the RV.....guess I'll keep thinking about it! It felt good to have a down day, & after dinner & the dog walk......look what we were blessed with!!!! What a sunset!!!!

That's the way to end a day!!!!
It's bed time....& look at Otis! That's MY side of the bed!!!!
Sunday August 21, 2016-   Whoa......look what I woke up to!!! Lennie's not walking this morning.....it's raining!☔🌂 Mornings like this.....oatmeal is more than breakfast....it's a real treat!

We had another down day, with rain & cooler temperatures, the cooler temps gave us the opportunity to have our leftover chili from our first cold spell!!!

Monday August 22, 2016- Today.....is promising!!!! I walked with Len, came back & had our coffee & oatmeal & now we're going to go on a nice scenic drive & a picnic!

It's a nice drive along Lake Huron, there are several roadside Parks along the drive.
We chose a  roadside park with a nice view of Lake Huron!
It had a workable hand pump for water! We filled Otis' water bowl
Look at our view!!!(This picture is so pretty it almost looks staged!?!)
The water is soooooo blue, it looks more like a Caribbean Island, than a beach in Michigan!
                                                    The water was beautifully clear!
Len's waiting for the picnic to start & boy do I have a surprise for him!!!! Unbeknownst  to either one of us....our bread was moldy!!!!😒😭😕 That's okay....we drive until we find a little store, get some FRESH bread & a short drive later, another Roadside Park!
See.....these little Roadside Parks are all along the road!!!

Not a bad view for our picnic & we know for sure our bread is fresh!!!

We have time for some sight seeing!!!
40 Mile Point Lighthouse Park. The 1896 lighthouse features a restored bunkhouse, gift shop, the Calcite Pilothouse, picnic area & beach. We could have had our lunch here! Good thing the views were all open because the Lighthouse & gift shop were CLOSED on Mondays!!!

The remain of the shipwreck that washed a shore

If it wasn't Monday....we would have been able to go inside this Pilot Boat!!!
40 Mile Point Lighthouse is about a half hour East of Cheboygan, the lighthouse beautifully preserved is an example of what was once a pivotally important marker on the northern shores. It was a nice drive with nice Roadside Parks where one can enjoy a picnic especially if your bread is fresh!

We did find a place that was open on Mondays!!!!

Soooooo, we HAD to have some ice cream!

                                                    Okay.....back to the sight seeing!!!

Otis said, "Strange that a dog would want to get into the water like that....."

What a beautiful day we had, the sky was so blue!

Heading back to the campgrounds, we have pork chops laid for dinner!

Tuesday August 23, 2016- This morning we're NOT walking....we have our coffee & oatmeal first, Otis has been taken care of & now....we're going on....a bike ride!!! The bike path is right behind the campgrounds!

It's not a paved path, pea gravel but it's okay. It's the same path we walk on.
I like the country scenery we see along the path!

I wondering how long this path is, but I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel???
We reach the city limits of Cheboygan & leave the bike path to ride downtown.

"Hey! This is my bridge, no one goes across without going through me!

I think this fish might have been a student project. The tiles on the fish seemed like they were created by school age students, but I didn't see any information on the fish????
We continue our bike ride & stop at a park. Cheboygan is really a nice town!
This is a mural that shows Cheboygan's beginnings.

As we continue our bike ride, I think we are heading back to the bike path to head back to the campground. the wind has picked up & my knees are starting to cry out in pain! By now I want the most direct route back to the campground! But then.....Lennie surprised me by turning into a restaurant??? He researched this place, it was voted one of the top ten places to go for Pizza!

Well it was good, but I still have to admit, the pizza we had in Canada is still the best!🍕🍕
We had pizza left over, that takes care of dinner!

  We're back to the campgrounds!
That bike/walking path doubles as a snowmobile path in the winter is 61 miles long. Course we didn't ride that far, but my knees felt like we did!!!
This is our site view after all the boaters left!

On Thursday, we're going to meet our friends from our Florida Discovery Group in Mackinaw City for dinner. Lennie said we should drive over there to see what was available as far as restaurants, it's only a 20 mile drive from Cheboygan. We know Mackinaw City is a real Tourist area.
We found a couple of restaurants that looked real nice & we also found.....ICE CREAM!

Since it is a tourist town they had LOTS of shops, which I looked in a few!
Look....OTIS had his own Fan Club!
This Park is known for their sunsets....we can't stay that long!
But we can stay long enough to get some picture of the Mackinaw Bridge!!!
The boat ride to Mackinaw Island

                                                                   Mackinaw Island

No trip to Northern Michigan is complete without seeing the Mackinaw Bridge, one of the most awe-inspiring examples of engineering ever constructed.

Erected in 1892, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse served as a beacon of safety in the Straits for more than 60 years.

One last shot of the bridge & now we're heading back to the campgrounds!

Oh yeah......we had leftover Pizza with  a salad for dinner!😋

Wednesday August 24, 2016- Not a good start to the day.....it's raining, & it's raining hard!!!
Poor Otis.....it has rained ALL DAY, nothing to do outside so I may as well bathe the dog!!!

Bath is over, but I'm not sure if he's over being mad at me for giving him the bath!
Later we dodged the raindrops to go to Walmart for a few groceries. That was our day!
Spaghetti & a salad for dinner & our day was over! Tomorrow night we are meeting our Discovery friends, Greg & Dotti Rogers for dinner, that'll be fun!

Thursday 25, 2016- This morning while Lennie walked, Otis & I slept in, aaaaah felt so good! Then Lennie comes in & forces us to get up, but it's not all bad, I can smell the coffee!!! This is our last day at Water Ways Campground in Cheboygan, Michigan. Lennie has nominated today as National Clean Your RV Day!!!! It starts right after breakfast & Otis has his potty walk!!! While I am busy cleaning on the inside, Lennie is outside cleaning the whole RV! When he's done with the coach, he takes the car into town & washes it & vacuums it at our RV site. Busy, busy day!
Today was $1.00 Hot Dog Day at Sonic, there isn't any Sonic's around here but we still had Hot Dogs for our lunch!!!

Come on boys....lunch is ready!

Glad the work of the day is over....now we can relax till it's time to get ready to meet Greg & Dotti at the restaurant, Darrow's in Mackinaw City. Greg & Dotti are staying at the KOA in Mackinaw  City.
As we get closer to our destination, we know we're almost there when we see the Mackinaw Bridge! The Mackinaw Bridge, built in 1957, is one of the largest suspension bridges in the world!
This restaurant had great reviews, we'll see for ourselves!!!
Hmmmmm, are they discussing the menu or BSing!?!
                                                                    NO BS going on here!
                                                                 Dinner was GREAT!!!!
                                                    Dessert was HOMEMADE pie!!!

Lennie told Otis when we left that we would bring him a McDouble!
                                                                    True to his word!!!

Otis didn't know we bought PICK 2!!! Now he has another treat for tomorrow!!!

I was getting ready to shut lights off & come to bed when Lennie told me to bring the fly swatter, "SOMETHING" was crawling on the ceiling. In the bed, Otis was on my side till I showed up with the fly swatter & made a little noise like...."EEEEW" Then he goes by Lennie! I'm never sure is Otis is looking for protection, or if he thinks he's providing the protection!?!

Tomorrow we leave Cheboygan, we're not going far, 40 miles or so to Petoskey, Michigan!
