Thursday July 14, 2016- Today we have a little adventure planned!!! This is the part of our trip we would have had to miss out on had we had to go to court in Michigan!😖 We're taking a little side trip, a distance of about 50 miles to the town of Austin, Minnesota. The bridge being out has nothing to do with the country roads we had to travel on!
What are they growing up here!?!
I thought there was only that one nasty can of SPAM, turns out there are 20 varieties of SPAM, first developed in 1937. The 13th flavor was created just for Hawaii, it's called SPAM with Portuguese Sausage. Years ago when Lennie & I were in Hawaii, I remember SPAM being a big deal there, they even had a SPAM Parade!!!
SPAM was a given during the War. Khrushchev said the troops wouldn't have survived without SPAM! It's been joked that SPAM stands for:SOMETHING POSING AS MEAT, but maybe it really stood for:Specially Prepared American Meat or.....Specially Prepared Army Meat????
NOT!!!!!!
A 390-foot SPAM can conveyor suspended from the ceiling runs through the museum with the 20 different SPAM varieties represented, & takes 18 minutes to complete a rotation.
I guess we've seen it all, time to find lunch. I wonder where we can go to get a SPAM burger!?! Oh BTW....in the gift shop....
Lennie did buy a can of SPAM!!!! Turkey flavored! This is the HORMEL Museum
Culver's was lunch
& there was no SPAM Burger on the menu.....😋
On our way back to little ole Lanesboro & the Campgrounds. How'd you like to live on this road!?!
Otis is always glad when we return. He just wants us to relax with him the rest of the night! Okay Otis....it's a deal!
Friday July 15, 2016- Was raining this morning, this delayed Lennie's regular walk!!!DELAYED not stopped!!!!After lunch, we're going on a "special" bike ride! We will be riding the opposite direction on the Root River Trail, instead of going to Lanesboro, we will be riding to Whalan. There's a reason we're riding to Whalan!!!
Ready to Roll!I've already started taking pictures, he's already waiting on me!
Sights along our bike ride!
Kids in the river...
Fishing....
At this point Lennie told me NO MORE PICTURES till the return ride. I guess he was in a hurry for the "SURPRISE"!?!
but......there was no way I wasn't going to snap pictures of these visitors on the bike trail!!
First one deer, then a second deer appeared!
I barely clicked when they took off!!!!
We have reached Whalan!!! It was about a 5 mile bike ride. Population 62!!!!The reason we rode here !?!
Home of the WORLD FAMOUS PIES!
"I'm Ready"
Now I have to make a decision!
They all look soooooo good!
Len chose Chocolate Cashew Pie
I chose Orange Creamsicle!!!
This couple....there was SOMETHING wrong with her???? They only had one piece of pie, I thought to share, but nooooooo, only ONE fork & he didn't offer her, nor did she ask for one bite!?!
Don't let the fact that you see no one but us on the bike trail. This is a widely used trail. Today mostly families were riding. I wonder if they were all heading to the Pie Shop????
As usual Otis is happy when he sees us! He likes when we just go on short bike rides & spend the rest of the day with him!!!!
Tomorrow.....another bike ride!

Saturday July 16, 2016- This morning Lennie wakes me up after his routine walk, his walk took him by a bakery in Lanesboro. I didn't know anything was open at the time he's out walking????
Good thing he likes to get up early....or not!?!
Our bike ride today will be back into Lanesboro, 10 minutes by bike! We did this before but never really looked around in the town? There's no surprise pie or anything like that at the end of our ride, it's just a ride! there is a Farmer's Market going on in town. I'm hoping for some fresh tomatoes I have a taste for BLTS!
I don't see any bridge work going on? Maybe they don't work on Saturdays???
We first rode to the falls.....
At the Farmer's Market......
NO TOMATOES!!!! Maybe too early??? No BLTS for dinner!😓
Time to head back to the campgrounds, Otis called!!! Oh....in this town, sharp at 12 o'clock noon, the "Noon Whistle" goes off! I think Len's "lunch whistle" was going off, more than maybe Otis called!!!
Maybe Otis called or maybe he didn't,, but he sure was glad to see us!

Maybe they didn't have tomatoes at the Farm Market, but....it was still an interesting historic town to look around in!

I'm not so sure Otis is all that glad to see us or.....if he just wants to see what we may have brought him!?!
Tomorrow we leave Lanesboro, our destination is Dakota Meadows Casino & RV Park in Pryor Lake, Minnesota, but first.....we have to stop in Faribault, Minnesota to check out an alternator problem!
Second to ice cream is PIE....Think we could live together....Ice cream and pie for every meal....You two are energetic bike riders. Last time I was on a bike I crashed....Need a 3 wheeler. Been to Dakota Meadows camping, nice campground as I recall. Amazing how us RVers end up at some of the same places....
