July 13th-July 14, 2014-Estes Park-Lunch at the Aquarium-preparing to leave-

Sunday July 13, 2014 The day has started, I'm showering while Lennie finishes his walk. We need to get an early start this morning, they'll be no bike ride this morning....What's that I hear???? Oh...just my knees saying THANK-YOU! We're going on a picnic in Estes Park! Quick breakfast, picnic packed, even something for Otis! Okay....we're off!
It's a scenic ride over to Estes Park!

Soon we're driving along the Big Thompson River.Last year the Big Thompson flooded causing sooooo much destruction. One of the sights of destruction was the Stage Coach Inn in Drake, where we camped last year in early July.

It was sad to see EVERYTHING gone from the Campgrounds.......

Lennie saw the owner working on the lots & went to talk to him. The owner says he hopes to reopen by next camping season!
When you see the Big Thompson, it doesn't look that viscous
but after too much rain, flash flooding can turn the river from fun to tragedy....
Getting closer to our picnic destination!
Not only is this the same park we picnicked in last year while visiting Estes Park.....it's the VERY SAME PICNIC TABLE!!!!! Otis wouldn't eat his picnic lunch again, I don't know why we bring him on our picnics!?! We finish our lunch, put our picnic gear back in the car, & walk through the cute but very touristy town of Estes Park!
You can see the water line, you can tell how high up the Big Thompson River was....
River looks so peaceful now!
                                                        Lennie & Otis shopping!
The shopping wore the boys out so we took an ice cream break!
It was a cute shop & yummy ice cream!

During the time we were walking around the town of Estes Park, we kept seeing this horse & buggy ride. Every time the horses would go by, Otis gave them all kinds of verbal dog heck! As we started to walk back to our car, we saw a crowd of people & police lights &........
I stood among the crowd to try & hear what happened, but there was tooooooo many conversations going on at once. I never could catch how the accident happened. The car involved had damage to it's right rear end.....& where were the horses???
Just before we reach the parking lot where our car is parked, we can see the famous rock formation called THE TWIN OWLS.
Can you see it, can you see the Twin Owls?
Here....let me show you again!?!
Over the bridge, to our car & back to the RV!

Later that night, after dinner, after dishes, after Otis' nightly walk, Lennie & I are just relaxing while poor Otis is planning tomorrow's adventure!!!

Don't worry Otis, dad will do all the planning for us! Let's go outside to potty so we can all go to bed!
Tonight the super moon doesn't look as "super" without the clouds!

I'm anxious to see what Otis has planned for us tomorrow!?!
Monday July 14, 2014 This is our last day at Cherry Creek State Park. Tomorrow morning we leave this location, but we aren't leaving Colorado yet! Oh....here comes Len, we're going for a bike ride! This morning I try to trick my knees! I put a generous amount of Ben Gay on both my knees! Lennie starts the coffee before him & I head out!
our last bike ride.....here!
Here's last night's Super Moon at 7:30am!
I saw these flowers all over the fields here both in purple & white. they have a Morning Glory look about them but.....up close their stalks look like dandelion leaves. I don't want to think this pretty flower could be a weed?????
Once again Lennie is waiting for me!
The ride back to the RV is a different story.....it's all down hill!
"WHEEEEEEEEEE!"

Back at the RV I smell the coffee as we pull up. What a wonderful aroma! And there sits Otis patiently awaiting our return!!!
He's on guard duty!

Coffee & oatmeal is slow paced this morning. This is our last day here & generally that means a work day, & so it seems!I gather up our laundry while Lennie puts all our "outside stuff" away.We take Otis for a walk cause he's NOT going to the laundromat with us! We took our laundry into town.We were multi-tasking! While I started the laundry, Lennie took the car for an oil change. It was a big laundromat, you didn't use coin money. You had to purchase a Laundry credit card to use on both the washers & dryers. This card required a 75 cents deposit????
Having to do laundry proved to be worth it cause after the laundry was done, we didn't go right back to the RV, we went out to lunch! At the Aquarium!!!!
Lennie had read you could eat at the Aquarium restaurant without going to the Aquarium! We both enjoyed our meals, but......

something FISHY was going on there!?!

Definitely a fun place to eat!

We're going back to the RV before Otis expects a McDoubles!
While I put the laundry away, Lennie connects the car.
Ready to go!
We take Otis for his last walk to the beach!
The beach was different after the weekend, the crowd was all gone. The ducks are happy!

Look close, do you see this shiny neon bug? They were all over our car.I just hope they're not like the Florida Love Bug!!!!

With dinner, dishes,Otis' walk all out of the way, there's nothing left to do tonight but relax!

During TV time we got another rain down pour. I know what Otis is thinking....
Happy Trails tomorrow!?!

  1. I saw all that devestation from the flooding last year on TV, but it must be awful to actually see it in person. Hope the area can recover. Loved the twin owl rock too. That was a pretty place for lunch with all the aquarium peep holes. Where are we headed next?? LOL
