July 18, 2014 Another scenic drive! Picnic at Turquoise Lake-Leadville-Vail!?!

Friday July 18, 2014 AAH good!!! Lennie did not get locked outside the RV this morning when he returned from his morning walk!!!So another routine morning is starting!!!But once we get the routine out of the way.....we head out for another day of beautiful Colorado scenery! This time we're going in the opposite direction on The Top Of the Rockies Scenic Byway!

I take Otis out this morning cause Lennie is taking the garbage out, but when I go outside with Otis, there's Lennie talking with our camping neighbor, Fred! ((Lennie knows NO strangers!) Turns out Fred was telling Lennie about a nice scenic drive to a place called Turquoise Lake. Fred & his wife (I finally saw Mrs Fred!) drive a jeep & they had been to Turquoise Lake the day before! Good thing I came out with Otis or who knows how long Fred & Lennie would have talked! Now we're off!
We're not too far on the highway when we see the sign for Turquoise Lake. We decide to see if Fred's description of this place is accurate or not!?!We owe Fred a BIG thank-You!!!! Turquoise Lake was beautiful!                                       Take a look & see for yourself!

Turquoise Lake was a huge lake!!!! We spent soooooo much time there, driving around, jumping out to take pictures, it was lunch time & what better place for a picnic than right there at Turquoise Lake!
Otis is walking "free" here but he's following close behind the picnic cooler!

Nice view!

The wind is blowing off the lake & I'm here to tell you it was a cold wind! After yesterday's trip to Independence Pass without my jacket....that's not happening again! Lennie goes to get my jacket while I start the lunch, now I can enjoy the picnic!!!
After our lunch & we start sight seeing again....we see a truck pull out & he has a 199th sticker on his bumper. Same brigade Lennie served in,in Viet Nam! So we follow follow this guy, & Lennie honks at him! I know the guy was wondering, what does the lunatic behind me want? But he did pull over & rolls his window down....then they started "military talking" like they were old friends!!!

The road out of Turquoise Lake took us right to where originally we were planning on going, the historic town of Leadville, Colorado.
Leadville is an old silver & gold mining town.It was fun to just walk around & see the old historic buildings! Like they were frozen in time!

Taking a break!

"Where's Mom?"

I guess it's time to head back to the RV? Our turn around point today is Vail, Colorado another "uppity" town that we just drive through!
Just waiting for the snow to fall again!?!
Vail didn't show us anything, we just drove through & headed back to Buena Vista
AAH, now this is scenery! Much better than all those condos back in Vail....
We drove over this bridge, heading back to Buena Vista. I had Lennie turn back around & pull over so I could get a picture of the bridge. I couldn't believe I snapped the picture with no traffic on or below the bridge. I wanted Lennie to drive over the bridge so I could get our car on the bride in the picture! He said him & Otis just might keep on driving!!!!
We're almost back to the RV park, I see the rain ahead....hope we beat the rain!?!

Back at the park, a little relaxing before we start dinner. Dinner, then dishes & Otis' favorite time of the night...his walk!
We both walk with Otis, exercise for the 3 of us! Big joke, you can't get a good exercise walk with Otis, he has to stop & smell EVERYTHING!!!! We head back in, Len to plan tomorrow's adventure, me to "TRY" & blog!

Another day is over.....

(Bare with me Blog Fans, my Internet connection here is really SLOW!!!)
