July 15th-July 16,2014-Leaving Cherry Creek,arriving Buena Vista-Taking it easy!

July  15, 2014 This morning after our normal routine, then we start the "We're Leaving" routine. We both have our little jobs we do in preparation of set-up & departure. Even Otis has a job!
We're not going that far, just to Buena Vista, Colorado less that 150 miles from where we're at here at Cherry Creek in Aurora, Colorado. We're leaving early because....Colorado is a lot like Florida this time of year. You can count on an afternoon rain, you can almost set your watch by the afternoon storms. Only difference Florida's storms are coming off the ocean, Colorado's storms are coming off the mountains. We're leaving now in order to beat the afternoon storms!

Good-bye Cherry Creek State Park, we certainly enjoyed our week here!
As we pull out of the park, I see a biker heading up "Heart-Break Ridge"!!!
That's the ride I refused to make!
Let's get rolling! We get out onto the highway & oh man.....the traffic is sooooo backed up! Denver definitely has a traffic problem, but this is too much for this time of day!?!
Before long we see the reason for the traffic back-up....an accident. Once we get past the accident site, it's smooth sailing for us.
& it was a nice drive over to Buena Vista

Our destination for the next 10 days is Arkansas River Rim RV Park

Our goal once we arrive is to get set up before the rain comes in! Needless to say we're hurrying!

WE MADE IT!
But not for long! We just started to relax when it started raining! I guess that means the picnic's off!?!                                        We had to have lunch inside!
Even tho it's raining, we still have  a VIEW out our window! There's not too much to do on a rainy afternoon. I tried to catch up on the blog but the storm wouldn't allow it!
After the rain, we took Otis for a walk around the RV park. The Arkansas River runs right behind the RV park.
I had sandals on & decided tonight in sandals would not be a good time to take a hike down to the river!
I went in to check out the laundry area (it's in the women's bathroom! 2nd time this trip!!!) I tied Otis to the fence while I went in the laundry room, poor Otis he was just begging Lennie for a reprieve!
I thought this was just part of the campground decor, then I realized this was to benefit the tent campers!
We're heading back to the RV, going to have dinner, then relax!

Good night Buena Vista....I wonder what tomorrow will bring????

Wednesday July 16, 2014 Last night I told Lennie I wanted to go walking with him this morning, but he still sneaked off without me. I bet he thinks I can't keep up, I probably can't!!?! He comes in & we have our coffee. The morning is slow! We're here for 10 days now we don't have to be rushing around everyday. I haven't even seen Lennie with the map out yet!?! We just kind of loafed for most the morning. I heard Lennie out talking to our camper neighbor, Fred who has a dog named Bella. I don't know if there's a "Mrs Fred" so far I haven't seen her yet????
Guess where our first picnic spot is? That's right, right here at our own camp site!
Otis is under the picnic table waiting for his bite!
After our lunch we decided to take Otis for the walk that will lead us down to the river!
This was no walk for sandals, glad I didn't try it last night!
It was cool when we reached the river!
While we were at the river's edge......
I thought I could hear, NOT BANJOS, but voices????

& sure enough, we weren't the only ones enjoying the river!

We decided to drive into Historic Buena Vista, only we waited too long! I went into a Craft store, Lennie waited in the car with Otis. He  made his call home while I was in the store. Then we went to the post office & the wind started blowing.....we knew the afternoon storm was coming! We couldn't walk around town with a storm coming on......so let's try a drive!?!

We didn't drive too far on those mountainous roads, we saw warning signs in regards to roads closing due to flash flooding. We didn't want to be caught on any of those roads if we got a real down pour.I snapped a few pictures of  Cottonwood Creek & we headed back to the RV to see what the afternoon storm was going to do!?!
Lennie gets up everyday at 6:30am to go walking, but not too long after we take Otis for his nightly walk Lennie is snoozing in his chair!?! Maybe he ought to forget about that morning walk & he could stay awake longer in the evening????
Tomorrow we're going to do a little sight-seeing!!!!

  1. Boy, they really cram you in at this park. Not liking that too much!! Love the view tho, of the hills. Love that last photo....good job, Wendy!! So pretty. It's always nice to be near water too and I'm sure you'll enjoy the river.
