Tuesday July 1, 2014 Today we WERE going to go on a picnic to Garden of the Gods but.....last night's rain gave us quite a change in the weather. Yesterday when we left to go to Pikes Peak, we dressed for the weather on top of the peak. By the time we were enjoying our lunch, we were over dressed! Today we are wearing light weight jackets! After our morning routine, we decided today would be a good day to do nothing, & that we did until after our lunch! Then we just went for a drive, we had one errand at Camping World to take care or, other than that......nothing! I did learn today that I should always have my camera with me, "just in case"! As I stated before, our RV Park is very close to Fort Carson. All this week, we've seen on the news where groups of soldiers have been returning to Fort Carson after a 9 month deployment to Afghanistan. That's where my lack of a camera comes in! Lennie & I just happen to be right in view of the police escorting 3 buses of soldiers home to Fort Carson. Lennie rolled his window down & waved to all the buses, as I groaned about NOT having my camera!?! Later after dinner, as we were taking Otis for his nightly walk, I saw another Kodak moment! We saw a man sitting by his campfire, & his partner was in the other chair, definitely enjoying the campfire too! His wife??? Nooooooo his dog! A German Shepard, took up the whole chair, he was definitely relaxed!
Wednesday July 2, 2014 Today is another cold morning! It is suppose to warm up for tomorrow, I hope so! It's a little misty out, another good day to do nothing, but we do have plans! After breakfast I head to the RV laundry while Lennie takes Otis for his morning walk. I think Otis likes it that way!
Our plans today don't include Otis, as after lunch we are going to see the world-renowned Broadmoor Hotel Resort.First a little history about the name behind not just the Broadmoor Hotel! Spenser Penrose & his wife Julie. They were instrumental in the development of Colorado Springs. They are responsible for the construction of the PIKES PEAK HIGHWAY, the CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN ZOO,the BROADMOOR HOTEL & the establishment of El Pomar Foundation in 1937.
Views from the grounds of the Broadmoor
Ready for a dip? Welcome to the pool at the Broadmoor!
It was cold the day we were walking around the Broadmoor, but...the pool is heated! We encountered several employees while walking. They were all very friendly to us. Course they didn't know if we were GUESTS at the Broadmoor, or just "MOOCHERS"!?!
A distant view of Will Rogers Shrine Of The Sun from the Broadmoor grounds! Hard to see between the distance & the morning clouds. We saw it up close & personal the day we went to the zoo!
In 1916 the first Autos raced to the top of Pikes Peak!
Not all autos made it to the top....this driver did survive the crash!?!

We had a little treat while visiting the Broadmoor, coffee & a cinnamon bun (big enough to share). It helped us feel more like guests!
One of the main reasons we came to see the Broadmoor Hotel was the Carriage Museum adjacent to Broadmoor Hall. The Penroses were enthusiastic collectors of unique carriages, race cars, automobiles, & other historically significant items. The 8,500 square foot Museum houses the lifetime collection of Mr & Mrs Penrose, I had to limit the pictures, the rest are etched in my memory!

First motorized bike that raced the Pike Peak Climb!
It was a very interesting afternoon. Now I know how Guests at the Broadmoor must feel, but it's time to go back to reality, our RV & Otis!
We had to make a stop at the grocery store for a few items. Dinner tonight is leftover meatloaf, that will make Otis happy!!!
Thursday July 3, 2014 Here we go again, another day....same routine! I still haven't made that morning walk with Lennie! But we he gets back, we have coffee & breakfast together, then we walk Otis!
Our month here at Mountaindale is up this week. Lennie & I need to go to Sam's club & stock up before we take off for our next location. Plus....my friend, Janis is coming to dinner tomorrow, Lennie is going to grill some steaks! STEAKS, do you know how long it's been since we had steaks on the grill!?!
We get all the shopping out of the way, & I start some RV cleaning! Lennie & Otis are sitting outside enjoying the day. I'm going to join them as soon as I'm done cleaning. which doesn't take too long..the RV's not as big as a house!?!
We 're enjoying the day when it starts raining! Oh noooooo, we don't want rain, not tonight! Tonight Fort Carson is having their 4th of July fireworks display! By the time we have dinner, the rain has quit! Looks like a go after all! We take Otis for his potty walk. He's definitely NOT going with us tonight, he is afraid of the fireworks!
There's quite a back up at the entrance at Fort Carson.
It isn't just the Fireworks display going on at Fort Carson . All day long they've been having a celebration event, open to the public. Food, games, music. It was wall to wall people . Fort Carson itself is a huge base, then open it to the public WOW!!!!
Lennie & I made our way to the top of a hill with our lawn chairs & snacks & set up in preparation of the fireworks! Just so happened we sat next to a very friendly young man, Travis, who was stationed at Fort Carson. He looked young, but he told us he'd already served 12 years in the Air Force before joining the Army!?! Lennie was wearing his 199th Light Infantry hat, which was the conversation starter Travis needed!!! After he introduced himself to us he never shut up! But he was interesting to talk to so it was okay!!!! We sat there on the hill talking to Travis, & then....it started raining. Not a light rain either. Fortunately we have tops on our chairs which we quickly raised. It helped some, but the rain continued, then the wind started. Now we were wet & cold. A half hour before the fireworks were suppose to start, Travis & his group left to go home (right there on the base) to watch fireworks. We decided to leave too. We got to our car, & by the time we found our way to the main gate, the rain stopped!!!! Directly across from Fort Carson is Cheyenne Mountain State Park.We pulled into the entrance of the park, where some cars were already lined up to watch the fireworks display, turned around & got in line with the other cars just as the fireworks started!!!
I really enjoy the fireworks...makes me feel like a kid again!
The best part of tonight's fireworks, following the Grand Finale, car engines started & we left got right on Highway 115 with NO TRAFFIC congestion. I can't imagine how long it would have taken us to get out of Fort Carson after the display ended.....
Even tho Mountaindale RV park is out of ear shot of any fireworks going off, Mr McSpoiled still got to sleep with us, just in case he heard any "booming"!?!
GOOD NIGHT!
