Thursday July 17, 2014 I didn't know when I went to bed last night what Lennie had in store for us today! Sometime when he was snoozing in his chair, he must have been dreaming about today's adventure! This morning started out like all our mornings, Len was out on his walk, I heard him come in, get Otis, & that's when our ordinary morning changed!!!I heard Lennie knock on the bedroom window. I thought he was just being silly, & letting me know it was time to rise & shine. then I heard him knocking on the front door, this time a little more aggressively??? I went to the door & I understood the tone of the knock....Lennie & Otis were locked out! (No picture of this incident!)Our door lock is very touchy! This has happened before, we even had the door lock replaced, but the mechanic who replaced it was .....a little questionable on his mechanical ability!?! After today, we will never leave the RV without leaving a window unlocked!
We got showers & breakfast out of the way. During breakfast Lennie told me we were going to take a very scenic drive to Independence Pass & on to Aspen.Picnic's packed....let's go!To say today's ride was scenic, was putting it mildly! If this wasn't our most scenic day this season....it's definitely up there on the list!
Scenery is all around us, I took so many pictures!
& then we arrive!
The mountains & lakes aren't the only thing beautiful up here, I love the wild flowers too!
When we leave Independence Pass, it is lunch time, but.....the temperature is 55 degrees. Too cold for ME to enjoy a picnic. We start driving back down the mountain heading toward Aspen. We're looking for a picnic area, & I'm looking for warmer temps!
During the ride toward Aspen, I saw a Mountain Goat run across the road right in front of us! You'll just have to believe me, I couldn't even get the camera ready he was soooo fast! I can't believe it, for all the many, many miles we've driven & ALL the Wild life signs I've seen on the highway....I finally see some wild life & I don't get a picture of it!?!
We're just about down from the mountain & the temperature is 65 degrees. Okay, in the sun....I can do 65. but we still haven't found a picnic area. But we did find some more scenery! We decided this was our #1 spot of the day!
The pictures don't really do this spot justice. It was just beautiful!Warm too, in the sun. We could have had our picnic here!
I guess we'll drive on down the road, see what we can find!
We didn't find a picnic area until we got into Aspen. We found a park, nice park. Aspen is a BUSY place to visit!
We have Otis, so we really don't want to visit the town part of Aspen, we just want to enjoy the park, & that we did! Okay....Picnic time!!!! Oh Oh...Houston....We have a problem!?!
MINE! I'm glad Otis decided to share "HIS" lunch with us! |
Can I have "MY BOX" back now????
Let's head back to the RV park, maybe I'll get another chance at that Mountain goat!!?! On the way home, Lennie decided to take an exploratory turn off the highway & am I glad he did!
The Arkansas River, the same river that runs behind our RV park. Why is a river in Colorado named the ARKANSAS River!?!We've seen rafters on the river, but this is the first time we saw kayaks on the river!!!
They were really swift in the strong current, we drove ahead to try & get another glimpse of them!
Here they come!!!!
Do I smell dinner cooking!?!
It's almost ready!
I said we had a rain-free day, but after dinner, when we take Otis for his walk, those clouds....well I'm not so sure. The wind picks up so unexpectedly here & then...rain!
I was already in my pajamas when Lennie called me outside to take one more picture!!!
I'm working on the blog & Lennie is working on tomorrow's adventure!
& I know where we're going!!!! |
