Making our way to Colorado!

June 23, 2015-Tuesday-This morning Lennie doesn't walk, today we are taking off. Our destination is Howard, Colorado which we will not make today. Lennie is the only one driving & we never drive too far in one day....the advantage of being retired. The long drives really cause my feet & ankles to swell, we don't need a picture of that!?! We fix coffee to go then we prepare to depart!

I take Otis for a potty walk while Lennie makes sure we aren't leaving anything behind!
"PILOT" says we're ready....

So does the "Co-pilot"!?!
We hook up
& we're off!
Good-Bye Historic Independence!
Kansas City's skyline as we drive through....
& before we knew it....the STATE of Kansas!
Then....a portion of the interstate turns into a TOLL ROAD!!!
I bet President Eisenhower didn't plan on a toll booth....
Time to pay.....

That same road is now interstate again!
We keep driving & I'm thinking it must be time to "get rid of" our coffee!?! Sure enough we reach a Rest Area!
This rest area was not just a potty break....it was also Lunch time!!!

As we continue our drive, we see familiar landmarks!!!
Ft Riley water tower! Last time we were here, 3 years ago, we were visiting Derick & his family when he was stationed here. We are not stopping this time!

When we were visiting Derick & family, the temps here were 104 degrees during our whole visit! Good thing we have no reason to stay & visit!!!
                                             We keep driving!

The wind turbines are so soothing along the highway!
We still driving!!!!
                                          Colorado State Line!
Still looks like Kansas to me!

                              The the Colorado Welcome Center!
We may not be in the part of Colorado I think of when I think of Colorado....but we have made it to Colorado!
Our one nighter is in Seifert, Colorado. A real small RV park, & the town....well????? No reason to go into town!?!
We've been here before, it works out fine for one night. A family vacation here....I don't think so!?!

A little relaxing time after his drive, dinner, a nice walk for Otis, some TV time....Before you know it, it's time for bed! Tomorrow's another day!
June 24, 2015-Wednesday- Again, travel days are not walk days unless by chance we are not getting off to an early start. This morning, it's coffee to go as we head out! Can't say that I'm going to miss Seifert, Colorado!?!
Let's go!
Really???? Just what an ex MAC/MATCO Man wants to see in front of him driving down the road!!!

Time to top off our propane tank, get some gas, & Otis....potty break! After this we will be leaving the interstate & taking the back roads into Colorado Springs. I kinda like that, a change in the scenery!
Doesn't look like a back road yet????
Here's our first little town off the beaten path!

LOOK CLOSE!!!! That's Pikes Peak in the background!!!
The scenery is starting to change! I'm starting to see the Colorado we love!!!

We stop at Walmart. Walmart is not just a place to get groceries for us, it also serves as our ATM as they have no Regions Banks out here & we are going to be staying in a pretty rustic area, I wanted some cash on hand!
Otis probably thought it was time for lunch but not yet!!!

It was pretty hazy out!
Here we are at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. We are here to get our Park Pass as we plan to visit & stay in some of the parks. It's also lunch time! We enjoy a great view while eating our lunch!

Co Pilot says it's time to leave again!!!

                                                 What a drive!
We arrive at Bandera's Bunkhouse & RV park in Colorado. We plan on staying here for 3 weeks!
Would it surprise you it was raining when we arrived???
When we arrived at our RV park in Independence, Missouri, the owner here at Bandera's Bunk house called us & told us some of his RV sites had been underwater due to flooding, including the site we are suppose to be on. He didn't encourage us NOT to come, he assured us he would find a site high & dry. What happened next is every RVer's nightmare!!!!
Stay Tuned!!!

  1. The land sure is FLAT out in the midwest. That drive looked very boring. But better views at the destination at the end of the day!!!

  2. What a day, for sure. You and Otis certainly made the right decision to keep out of the way during the mud bath. Your new site looks beautiful. Miss Miss Pearl sends special sniffs sniffs to Otis. Carolyn and Walter
