July 7, 2015-Tuesday-I think it rained all night last night & we woke up to more rain! No body's walking up to the Cemetery Phone Booth this morning! Lennie says we'll drive up there after coffee & oatmeal, that way Otis can ride with us! Before heading to our "phone booth" Lennie wanted to show me the remains of the original town of Howard. He found this village while on one of his morning bike rides.
This is one of the few remains of Howard, Colorado
Interesting story behind this old church, which was established in 1878. Seems at that time in history, the Preacher was paid for his services in food & meals. The Preacher decided he wasn't getting paid enough food & was going to bring his desire for a raise to a vote. On the day it was to be voted on, his parishioner's decided to show him what they thought of his raise in pay by pelting him with rotten goose eggs!!!!
We rode on from the church, Lennie wanted to show me his bike ride route which goes past our "phone booth" about a mile. As we approached the cemetery I could see the prisoners back working again. I thought they had finished the job, they have it looking real nice????This time they were doing trim work outside the perimeter of the cemetery. I clicked fast, they don't know they're now on my blog!!!
This is what an RV site looks like on a rainy day.....deserted. This is the first time it's rained on & off all day long? We were just hibernating in our RV hoping for the rain to quit! We were surprised by a knock on our door(Joanie didn't know we have a doorbell!?!) & Joan Dumont presented us with a written invitation to join them for dinner in honor of National Macaroni Day!!!!
Our wonderful Host, Joan Dumont!
Ready for a Macaroni meal....it was Ravioli! Close enough!Hey....who invited Abbey & TJ to join us!?!
I know Lennie won't share with the dogs!
Oh Oh.....looks like they're not joining us for dinner after all!!!
Thanks for the fun meal Rich & Joan!
July 8, 2015-Wednesday- This morning Rich has an appointment at Salida's Ford Dealership to have some minor work done on his vehicle. We go with them so they won't be stranded at the dealership while waiting for the repair work to get done. Our morning is looking pretty grey right fro the start, so this gives us something to do.
The clouds are already out, I hope the rain holds off. Rich drops his vehicle off, then we drive to Salida to look around. I need some postcards!
Not sure what Joanie needed!?!
Lennie & I didn't need this, we already had coffee at the RV this morning,
but the coffee here smelled so good & a sweet roll was calling our name! By the way....we shared a sweet roll!!!
After we poked around in the shops of Salida, we walked down to Riverfront Park. It's starting to sprinkle a little bit....
We were waiting for Rich to get a call from the Ford dealership, in the meantime we'll just watch people enjoying the Arkansas River.(Lennie must be calling his mom!)
Looks like a lot of fun, for them anyhow!!!
The dealership called Rich, they didn't have the parts necessary for repairs so he has to bring it back again tomorrow!!! Hey Salida....we'll see you again tomorrow!?!
It's such a scenic ride back to Howard!
Back at the RV park, we were met by "Cowboy Bob". Lennie had ordered a table earlier in the week, & Bob was letting Lennie know it had arrived. Oh.....btw, I have learned that Cowboy Bob's name is really DAVE! Too late now, Lennie's been calling him Cowboy Bob since we arrived, so that will have to be his name until we leave!?!
Hope the weather improves for tomorrow!
Another rainy night in Howard....
