Bandera's Bunkhouse & RV park is a rustic RV park. Cowboy Bob has quite the set up here.
Not only is it an RV Park, he also has cabins & a small hotel
Being a cowboy himself, he understands if you show up with horses, he even has a "Horse Motel"!
At one time he use to host Chuck Wagon dinners, now he'll do dinners on special occasions, family reunions, church functions, etc, etc. He & his wife are the entertainment for these dinners. He has a whole rift of Old Cowboys songs he sings, & his wife joins him on a 50's set! They have a great time!
Being at a new RV Park, this creates a new walk for Lennie. I did not walk this morning. I let Lennie go first to make sure it was "SAFE" after all....we are in God's country, & I wasn't sure what kind of God's critters
were out there freely walking around!?! When he came back he told me the route he walked & he didn't see any dangerous evidence!?! After his walk, he got the hose out & washed ALL THE MUD off the RV. More than most the time, you are NOT allowed to wash your RV at campgrounds, but Cowboy Bob had already told Lennie yesterday that he had his permission to wash the RV. Cowboy Bob even came over to talk to Lennie during the scrubbing period!
When the rig was washed, Lennie went in to fix another problem! Remember the bathroom door with the peephole!?! At that last Walmart he bought a closet door knob he thinks will work for us!
Yep....it works, & the beauty of this door knob is....it has NO lock!!!
We have discovered that we have NO cellphone connection here at Bandera's! For me that's not a big deal I get little to no phone calls, but I will miss my TEXTING!!!! Lennie on the other hand....he calls his mother everyday, (even when we are home, he calls her everyday). plus we need to keep abreast of our real estate dealings in Illinois, so phone connection is important to him! Bandera's has wifi, but it is hit or miss, & at our RV site it is definitely a miss! I did find if I go to Cowboy Bob's stage I can pick up the wifi!
Sometime in the afternoon, our friends, Rich & Joan Dumont showed up to join us at Bandera's Bunkhouse!
Rich & Joan were suppose to be down in the mud bog with us, but after our experience, Cowboy Bob put us both up on higher ground!
Our night ended with a great sunset!!!
Definitely God's Country!
June 26th-Friday-I wake up this morning & of course Lennie is already out walking! I am going to walk this morning, Lennie already "pre-paved" the path for me! He said it was safe!!! I get my head set ready & head out the door, not too far down the road I see something & I'm wondering just how safe this walk is going to be....
It's okay....it's just Lennie!
He walks with me which is unusual, because his gait is sooooo much faster than mine! I guess he just wanted to make sure I was safely comfortable with his walking route!?!The following pictures show the scenery I enjoyed while walking!
So we got stuck in a "LITTLE" mud our first day here...what's not to love, this is beautiful country!
Our stay here is going to be more of relaxing than hustling around. I like the sound of that!
We're not the only ones enjoying & relaxing!
The geese aren't the only ones floating down the Arkansas River either!
The closest town to us in Howard, is Salida, Colorado, it's about 15 miles away. We were driving there to check phone messages. Pretty inconvenient for Len, & then Rich & Joan, they have their Colorado home for sale, they need to check for messages. Good ole Cowboy Bob, he told us where to go to get phone reception!
I KID YOU NOT!!!
Not only is this a historic cemetery, it is also our phone booth!
Every day now we make a trip to the Historic Howard Cemetery to make calls or check messages! (It's a half hour walk for me!)
The cemetery committee tried unsuccessfully to obtain land for a cemetery, after a couple of failed attempts they were finally granted 20 acres for $25.00. There's 2 stories as to who the first residents of the Howard Cemetery is. One states a gunslinger killed & is the first, lying in an unmarked grave. The other story states early settlers in 1874 lost a child forcing them to pick a cemetery site. Regardless of how or who started the cemetery, they couldn't ask for a more beautiful place to lie in peace.....
June 27th-30th-Saturday -Tuesday-It's really nice having someone we know at the same RV Park, & especially the Dumonts, they are really friendly people & fun to be around. They found out right away our routine isn't always fun!!!
But once we got that job out of the way, pretty much the rest of it has all been fun & relaxing....oh I might mention some eating Too!!!
This ice cream shop was only open till 5:00pm!?!
Lunch out! |
Pancake breakfast!
Picnic lunch!
Porch chops on the grill!!!
Coffee & sweet rolls!
We really do, do more than just eat!!!
See, there was NO FOOD involved in any of the above pictures! June is over, tomorrow we'll greet July. We'll be with the Dumonts for 2 more weeks before we go our separate ways. Wonder what kind of fun is in store for these next 2 weeks!?!
STAY TUNED!!!!
Pretty campground. River looks like it's about to overflow. Any apples or blueberries in those pancakes??? Breakfast outside is the best!!! You have a pretty walk. But that phone booth doesn't have the best landscaping. Lol. Are you going to go rafting this year???
