A very SCENIC day!!!!--------More scenery, Flagstaff Mountain

August 10, 2015-Monday- Today breakfast comes as a real surprise! We are going on a nice scenic drive but first breakfast!!! Lennie makes us coffee to go, & we pack our picnic lunch, a little something for Otis too!
Johnson's Corner,(right outside of Loveland) not only a place to stop for gas, propane, browse in the gift shop, sit down for a meal.....they are famously known for their very large Cinnamon rolls! That's our breakfast today!
"Which one......they all look soooooo good!?!"
I can't believe we each got a Cinnamon roll, they were big enough to share!!!
Don't have to share with OTIS, he doesn't like sweets at all!

Our destination today is to take the scenic drive up OLD FALLS ROAD. Before we even get there we drive through miles & miles of beautiful scenery!
We leave Johnson's Corner, I can see the scenery in front of us!
Let's Go!!!
Because our drive from start to finish was sooooo scenic, you know what that means.....yep....I took too many pictures. I have only posted some of my favorite pictures!
                                                                  Big Thompson River
                                                         Be careful on those curves!
Otis has to leave my lap every time I step out of the car to take a picture!

We stop for our lunch before we reach Old Falls Road. Funny, ever since we put our portable picnic table in our car, we haven't had to use it, but....we're NOT taking it out of the car!?!
Even the parking lot had a view!

We had a 'FRIEND" a Colorado Bluebird kept flying close by!

It seems like when we picnic we're always by ourselves, I wanted to show this picnic area was full!
Can you see an animal in this rock????
We are now on Old Falls Road, it is one way up only!

This road is open to drivers from July 4th-Labor Day
We are above the tree line!

                                                            Still some patches of snow!
You can feel the difference in the temperature! It was 59 degrees
We're starting the drive back down....before we even start I see this long line of traffic! Right away we both think the drivers must be stopping for an animal of some sort!??!
It was an animal alright....an animal called CONSTRUCTION!!!

I thought we saw all the scenery one could see in a day, but I was wrong. Not too long after dinner we welcomed another beautiful sunset!

I told Lennie these sunsets were like the 4th of July Fireworks. You know.....OOOOH, AHHH, the only difference is, the sunsets are every night, we don't have to wait for a holiday to enjoy the spectacular display!

August 11, 2015, Tuesday- I know when Lennie sits in the evening doing his research that the following day is going to be fun & scenic! Today promises to be both! Today we are going to take a scenic drive to Flagstaff Mountain! We are going to have our picnic lunch before we take the drive up, even tho we have our portable picnic table in the back of our car, sometimes we find there are no picnic sites or pull offs on these mountain roads!

                                                                     Here we go!
It was a real nice park where we had our picnic lunch. Some sort of day camp activities were going on. A group of kids playing some kind of game with big sword like objects, looked like they were playing fencing!?! At least they were out playing not at home in front of the TV or playing video games!

The ride up Flagstaff Mountain was soooooo scenic, I took a lot of pictures, & now I have to try & post my favorites??? (Too many pictures uses too much data!?!)

                                                           View of  Boulder Colorado!

                                                          Just ONE of MANY curves!
                                                             Yay!!!! Wild Life!!!!
We saw the deer on our ride back down the mountain! Before we went back to Vrain State Park
Lennie wanted to make one more IMPORTANT stop!!!!

FROZEN YOGURT
Yogurt was not the end of our day, tho I think it should have been! A late snack before dinner ruins my appetite for dinner.....yeah right!?!
This was how our day ended!!!

  1. I love the bird in the pine tree, the Old Falls Road vistas, and the gorgeous sunset photos, and the beautiful, graceful deer overlooking Boulder. I wonder how many Boulder folk ever get out and up into thoe mountains where the real views are!!!??
