August 17, 2015-Monday- Just when I think I have seen all the scenery possible, Lennie has researched yet another scenic byway! Good thing my eyes get refreshed during the night !?! Colorado is home to 26 scenic & historic byways, Today's adventure is the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway. The Peak to Peak scenic byway provides some of Colorado's most spectacular mountain vistas as it winds 55 miles in & out of national forest lands. I'm sure I'll be taking too many pictures, then have to pick & choose which ones to post.....Our picnic lunch is packed, we may as well leave!
and we start out.....
Even tho we can hear the busy highway from our site at St Vrain State Park, we know that within a few short miles we will be in awe of the natural beauty surrounding us! For that very reason we'll put up with the sound of the highway!
Now there's a sound we like to hear, the sound of a rushing roadside creek!
We decide to picnic in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, it was a wooded wonderland!
When you're no good at taking "SELFIES" you have to take 2 single pictures!!!
There wasn't too many people at this park, school has started back in so many places that the crowds have really dwindled, makes it nice!!!!
Unfortunately, fog is rolling in, as rain was in today's forecast. We decided to head back to St Vrain State Park & continue our drive tomorrow, after all we want to enjoy being able to see the scenery!Heading back to our state park turned out to be a fun & scenic trip! We turned off the paved highway onto a dirt road & we were pleasantly surprised at our finding.....
THIS
& THIS!!!!
ALL of THIS!
It is raining now, time to head back to our car. "Andy & Opie" out front as usual!!!
Heading home.......
August 18, 2015-Tuesday- My Goodness what time is it???? Lennie is telling me to get up but I don't even think the sun is up yet!?!
There's the sun....I guess it is up!?!
We're going FISHING this morning!!!! I'll get the worms, you get Otis! I don't have to worry about the coffee...Lennie has already made that!!!
The minute I throw my pole in I have something nibbling, it was "the one that got away"!!!I fed a few fish breakfast of worms this morning & then finally I got a bite I could pull in!!!
Yes it was SMALL but hey....it ate my worm so I caught it, & immediately released it!!!
then.....again ...another bite!!!
I let him join his buddy back in the pond! Grow up little fishy, someone will catch & eat you later!
Otis didn't understand all the excitement over catching a fish! I was beginning to think I'd wasted my money on a Colorado fishing license!!!
Time to go back to the RV to clean up & pack our picnic. today we are continuing our Peak to Peak Scenic byway drive!
While Lennie starts his shower, I am having my Medicare Enrollment Interview! My Agent Nicki said it will only take 10 minutes. When I hang up, I'm all set, I don't have to do anything now but get old!!!! With "BUSINESS" out of the way, showers done, lunch packed, we're out of here!
Slight haze but maybe that will pass!
I had no idea when we started our continued Peak to Peak scenic drive just how great our day was going to be!
When I got out of the car to snap a picture, Lennie got out of the car to get the popcorn bag to have sometime to nibble on! Otis heard the rattle of the "food bag" & wanted to make sure he wasn't being left out of anything!!!(He doesn't even like pop corn!?!)
Saint Malo Chapel. Last time we were here we could walk through the Chapel. Maybe we were here on a Sunday????
This is the same Mountain Peak we can see the sun setting behind from our RV site at St Vrain State Park!!!
We keep driving through non stop beauty!!!
The Peak to Peak Scenic Byway is the oldest of the 25 Colorado byways, & is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.
We're getting up there now, we can feel a difference in the temperature, jacket time!
I don't want my lunch to blow away!!!
COLD & WINDY!!!
Not only did we get our eyes full of natural beauty....as we continued driving we saw a lot of cars all bunched up. That only means one thing, someone has spotted WILD LIFE & everyone else is trying hard to see what they're looking at!!!!
OOOOOOH BOY!!! This picture Lennie took out the car windowBut....I wanted to get out of the car & walk along with all the other picture taking people!!!
This was just great!!!
I hated to leave but there was more scenery to be seen!
Grand Lake
View of the town of Grand Lake
As we continue driving I see traffic bunched up again!!!!
You have to look close to see the wildlife! It is a Moose(hiding)
& her calf! They were not going to pose for a picture!!!
But these guys did!!!
Look at that RACK!!!!
I can't believe this....all this in one day!
We really enjoyed our day today, so glad we continued our Peak to Peak Scenic Byway drive!
Heading back to St Vrain State Park....
Ready to go home Otis!?!
What a day! Woke up to a beautiful sunrise, caught 2 fish, am officially enrolled in Medicare, got my eyes full of beautiful scenery & wildlife........ how could it get any better!?!
You sure that wasn't the same fish caught twice! Lol when we were there we saw a young moose hiding in the bushes just sitting & on the leaves
ReplyDeleteI love the photos in the Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Look at those rock walls. Impressive and hard to believe. Nature is awesome out there. Love that river too. That pic of you sitting by the pond looks like me in one that James took at the beginning of summer. Love your perch. Nothing is too 'small' in fishing LOL. I love your smile. You look just like me when I catch something. Fun, isn't it???? And just look at that wildlife in Rocky Mountain National Park. You sure got lucky to see all those animals and the photography is supurb.
