October 14, 2015-Wednesday-This morning Lennie & I are going to take a drive into Boston. I think the main reason we're going into Boston is to eat....we could skip that habit! It never shows on Lennie, I guess I bear the weight of both of us!?!
Otis is NOT riding into Boston with us. I make sure he has a good potty walk before we leave. He's safe to leave in the RV, he's NEVER had a "accident"!
We weren't that far from Boston, but the traffic made it seem like forever! We thought we left early enough traffic wouldn't be a problem???
The Boston skyline now in view!
Going through Boston's BIG DIG!
We're here at Fanuil Hall looking for something to eat. I already know what I'm getting! I hope the little shop is still here!
Something SWEET???? Maybe later!?!
Lennie got a rueben I got my Turkey Gobbler! What you cant see in this picture is....while I'm taking this picture Lennie is attempting to stab apiece of my turkey!
Yum, the Turkey Gobbler, that's 3 for me this trip! The turkey stuffing on this sandwich was GREAT!!!
Even tho we've been here several times....it's still fun to walk around. There's a lot of history here!OOOOOOH a Carousel!
And.....a ride designed just for me!!!!!
Boston Harbor
Walking back through the city....going after that SWEET TREAT!!!
It's pretty crowded, I take a seat & wait for Lennie. We've been here before & walked away cause the line was all the way outside! Not that bad today!
Here he is.....ALL SMILES!!!!Me too!!!!
This is how Lennie shops!
We're going to head back to the RV Park now, & pick up Otis!
Back in the traffic!!!
We picked up Otis & because it was still early enough we drove to the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Not just because Lennie is interested in Veteran's Cemeteries(he's planning on the future...) mainly because my cousin Gilbert (Muriel's brother) is buried here.
On the way back to the RV, one more photo before we leave the area.....
` Thanks for my new toy Cousin Muriel....I LOVE IT!!!!!!
October 15, 2015-Thursday-This morning we leave Peter's Pond, tho we weren't happy about the short notice on our reservation change, it really is a nice park, huge too. We learned it recently came under new management, maybe they still haven't gotten things figured out????
The Office & camp store
All wooded sites. A LOT of them permanent seasonal sites. Pretty nice set up too.
Here's a guy that had a beachy theme to his lot site.
They had a ball diamond here, a playground, a swimming pool, 2 outside picnic pavilions, I don't know.....maybe we'd give Peter's Pond another chance????
Otis & I return back to our site just in time.....Lennie is leaving us!!!He can't leave without us.....
Otis won't let him!!!!
Good-bye Peter's Pond, not sure if we'll be back to visit you again or not.....
We haven't been to the Centre Cemetery in Wareham yet & we have one day in limbo.Lennie found a campground fairly close to the cemetery & it won't be out of our way when we leave, so now we're heading to a one nighter!
Well....here we are! This is a Thousand Trails campground. We had called for a reservation for one night, & lucky for us, because we are Passport America members we got in. This campground is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE??? On our way in, a guy in a pick up truck stopped us & told us site 832 just opened up! then he drove back to that site & saved it for us while we were checking in at the office!!!!
We got the site!
Turns out the stranger saving the spot for us was also a Vietnam Vet, in Vietnam the same time Lennie was, but he didn't know this when he was saving the site for us!!!
This campground is having a big Halloween party this weekend, a lot of the sites were decorated for the occasion, as well as the office!
But we're not here for the Halloween party, just passing through because they're close to the cemetery. We're going there now while the weather is still nice!
The sun is shining the trees are alive with color. The cemetery is very peaceful!Soooooo, 67 years ago after a tragic yard accident, Roberta was laid to rest here, this grave site, but sadly for whatever reason at the time no headstone, even after the family moved from Massachusetts to Illinois,, still her little grave went unmarked......
Fast forward to maybe 2011 Lennie & I were visiting Massachusetts. I had begun doing research on finding Roberta's grave. Thanks to a group called FINDAGRAVE I was able to locate the cemetery in Wareham. Lennie & I were surprised to find the marker FINDAGRAVE had placed for Roberta!?!
Roberta's marker was placed right between these 2 stones who were also Erickson's, but unrelated Erickson's????We went to order a headstone & double checked on the grave site. We were assured she was in the right place???
The headstone was ordered & later I received an email with a picture showing her stone between the other 2 Erickson's......
My mother passed in July of 2012 & the following fall, Chris joined us in a trip to Massachusetts where we were going to spread mom's ashes in some familiar places including Roberta's grave site. We couldn't wait to show Chris Roberta's stone as it was a joint effort on buying the stone & getting it set. Imagine our surprise when we got to that ERICKSON gravesite & Roberta's stone was GONE???I guess whoever those other Erickson's were didn't mind her little metal marker, but when she moved in with her own headstone....they said NO.We made phone calls, got officials out to the cemetery.....finally the stone was located just across the road, another ERICKSON headstone, another unrelated Erickson! This headstone was rose colored, same color as Roberta's. Maybe that's why "someone" thought she belonged over here instead of with the grey stone Erickson's???
At any rate, Joe Barnicoat, the owner of the company that made & set her stone, told me he would place it in it's proper place, in CEMENT so no one could ever move her stone again. Once again, later I received an email with a picture of Roberta's set stone, this time in the proper place! Lennie & I were anxious to see if her stone was where it is suppose to be....& it was!We can leave now, everything is the way it's suppose to be......
