Washington DC in a flash! Georgetown & a Senate Building tour

October 24, 2015-Saturday- We only have one day to spend in Washington DC, we need to plan wisely!!! Just kidding, our only plans are to spend time with Theresa & Randy. Yesterday when we arrived at Cherry Hill, I did laundry while Lennie went to a meeting on What to Do & See while visiting Washington DC. We have been here several times, saw all the historic sites, this visit we're going to let Theresa & Randy show us around. Lennie went to the meeting to find out about transportation &.....while he was there, he learned there's a woman in the park that will walk your dog(for a fee!) that's great!!!! Now we can stay gone longer than we planned! Soooooo we told Theresa we would meet her at Union Station at 10:30am.We drove to College Park to catch the train, that was the easy part....
Now trying to figure out how these ticket machines work? We get our ticket, then we have to RUN up to the upper platform to catch the train that is just about half a minute away, I'm not exaggerating. Well key word being RUN, & I don't run any more sooooo we missed the train. Guess who's mad cause the next train doesn't come for another 19 minutes!?! Well he must have researched his train information wrong cause he'd barely got done fuming about missing the train when the next train arrived!!

ALL ABOARD!
When he tried to EXIT.....his pass wouldn't work! Maybe it was payback for his needlessly fuming at me!?!

We made it to Union Station, which is not just a train station, also restaurants & gift shops. We arrived before Theresa, giving us time to walk around.

WOW I didn't realize the President was so short!
We walked outside to meet Theresa.Out the main entrance to Union Station, Massachusetts Avenue, you can view the Capital Building, unfortunately the Capital Building is covered in scaffolding, for the next couple of years......
A real tourist area, let the hustle & bustle begin!
Hey! I know that girl with the cute yellow VW, & we pile in & off to Georgetown. My first ride in a VW which has been the first car I ever desired & have never owned!

From Theresa's parking spot I got a better picture of the Capital Building but....it still didn't change the scaffolding.....

This morning Theresa is going to show us around Georgetown. She's just dying to show us the EXORCIST STEPS(from the movie The Exorcist), there's 97 steps!?! Did she forget I'm the old overweight Aunt!!!
Going down.....Piece of cake!
Come on girlie....these steps were YOUR idea!

On our way to find lunch, we passed by a North Face store having a Give away gimmick! A chance to win something for free!?! All you had to do was choose a key & try to unlock a duffel bag. Theresa & I both tried with no luck, Lennie who wasn't interested was outside the store, Theresa told him to give it a try, he did & he WON! ($25.00 gift card to North Face of Georgetown, & a water bottle!)

We found lunch at a pizza place, the pizza was good, we ordered a medium size, just enough for the 3 of us because after lunch, we already knew we were heading over to DC Donuts!!!

I can't wait to go inside!!!
The way this works....you order your cupcake, you get a receipt, then you wait for your number to be called. This place is always BUSY!!!

While we wait for our number to be called, we can watch the Donut Operation going on behind the glass windows.
Then our number is called & Theresa goes to pick up the donuts!!!

YUMMY!!!(Big bag cause Theresa bought extra to take home to Randy!)
I wish I would have bought extra!

This is the line outside of DC Donuts waiting to get in!

Oh boy.....now UP the EXORCIST STEPS! Working off the pizza & donuts!!!
Not sure I can make it?????
I did it!!!! I made it down, then back up the EXORCIST STEPS!!!!

This probably isn't legible, but it states the different movies, besides The Exorcist filmed in this area.
And this was the Exorcist House! I saw that move, it's been so long ago I really don't remember much of it other than Linda Blair's head turning around, oh yeah & the vomit spewing!?!

We continue our walk around Georgetown.....
This is a plaque outside Holy Trinity Catholic Church. This was President John F Kennedy's church & he attended it last on November 10th just before his assassination....
It was a beautiful church & back outside we could see "something" was going on???

                                                                         NOT our ride!
Now we see.....a Wedding is getting ready to take place. She was about to get out of the car when the Groom & Groomsmen pulled up! One of the Bridesmaids chased the Groom car away!! You know....the groom can't see the dress before the wedding!!!!

That's a different pumpkin carving!!!

                                                                   Georgetown University
Definitely a stately looking school.

View from the steps of the University looking toward the main gate.
I loved these row houses, would love to see the inside of one,, or several!

Now....the second half of our day! We're off to the Senate building to meet Randy for our personal tour. We must be getting close, there's the Washington Monument!

                                                          aaaah yes......getting closer!

We meet Randy outside the Senate building. Lennie is really hyped about this tour. He's been telling everyone he's talked to about the personal tour we were about to take!

Randy, who was a plumber in the Air Force, after retiring from the Air Force landed a job as a plumber at the Senate Building. He says he has job security......because......!?!    All I can say about this tour is.....we were able to walk all over, we had an exceptional tour guide! He must have done this a time or two! Literally we went from top(we were on the roof) to bottom(we saw the basement & the garage)!
I can't remember the names of all the rooms we went to so I am just posting some of our tour so you can get an idea of part of what we were able to see!

This piece of "ART" is called The Mountains, there's an additional piece that hung above The Mountains called....The Cloud, it's in that enclosed container in the background being xrayed for safety reasons.....?

See....up on the roof of the Senate Building!
                                                         Capital Building behind us!
Going to the other side of the Senate Building
Back in the day....this is how staffer etc, would go back & forth between the Senate & the Capital Buildings.
This is how they do it today.

The garage....those vehicles belong to SECURITY!!!

That ended our tour, Randy changed from his Uniform into street clothes, clocked out & we drove to DC's China Town for dinner!

This was our restaurant of choice! It was good ! Our waitress, well....she wasn't unfriendly, just all business. I didn't ask her to take our group picture!
Turns out Lennie & I were able to catch our train back to College Park Station right there in China town!!
Here it comes, that worked out perfectly, no waiting time!

So Mr McSpoiled did get a McDouble just because he had to spend the day by himself. the dog walker(Sandy) left a little "report card" on Otis. Sandy said Otis was a little leery of her at first, but managed to go for a nice walk any how!

What a busy but fun day! Tomorrow we leave......
