Good-bye Illinois-Hello Iowa! Discovery Owners Rally

September 21, 2015-Monday-This morning Lennie & I leave Hi-Tide Campgrounds in Leland, Illinois our destination is the Discovery National RV Rally being held at Amana RV Park in Amana Colonies, Iowa. Believe it or not....Lennie & I have stayed there before, but not with the RV group, on our own! This will be the first time we've attended a National Rally. We've attended our own South East Regional Rally several times since joining the Discovery RV Club!

Good-bye Hi-Tide!
And we hit the road!

Mom.....don't tell me you're going to knit??? I need to sit on your lap!
We are Iowa bound!

                                                       Illinois construction.....No surprise!
Hello Iowa!!!
Iowa's rolling countryside...
We met Fred & Betty(Discovery members) at the I-80 Truck Stop, they were coming from the Quad Cities. We wanted to arrive at the RV Park at the same time so we could be site mates!
                                                                    Won't be long now!
September 21-27, 2015-Discovery Owners National RV Rally in Amana Colonies, Iowa

Another Discovery pulling in ahead of us. There's 4 of us from the Florida chapter, I think there was 90 coaches in all.....
We are site mates with Fred & Betty & behind us is Bruce & Jody, also from the Florida chapter. We don't know the people behind Fred & Betty???

Soooooo a RV Rally is a combination of seminars, eating, entertainment & free time! This being a National Rally, the coaches are from all over. From Texas to New York! I really expected more coaches??? I'm just going to include a scatter of Rally Pictures just to give an idea of some of the things that take place during rallies. (I wish I knew how to make a picture collage!?!)
The Morton building where EVERYTHING took place!

This is Fred Jecks, he's the President of our Florida Discovery Chapter, & a really good friend!
This quilt was being raffled off. Fred who collects Eagles, wanted this quilt bad!!! He bought sooooo many raffle tickets but....didn't win!

                                                                       "Pep Rallies!"

First entertainment. This band, a Polka band, has been together over 30 some years. The leader is Jim Busta, also his daughter, Molli & a son, Mark back on the drums. One couple from our Florida chapter, Greg & Dotti, had seen them performing on TV & were soooooo excited this was tonight's entertainment!!!
Greg & Dotti dancing to the Jim Busta band!

EVERYONE who wanted to.....Molli was leading some type of polka dance. I am taking pictures...NOT learning the polka!?!

                                                                  More    Entertainment!

                                                                 The potluck line......
This was my plate!!!!Shame on me, but there was sooooo much good food to choose from. I think I chose it all!?!
FREE TIME!
There was quite a bit of free time, more for the women, while men were attending RV related seminars. I did laundry one day while Len was at a seminar...I guess you can count that as an RV activity!?!
One day we took advantage of our free time & drove over to see Herbert Hoover's boyhood home.

A still functional & in use, blacksmith shop.

Herbert Hoover & his wife's burial site. From their graves, you can see his boyhood home....

Free time did include eating somewhere other than at the rally, we went out to lunch with Fred & Betty
on a free evening our whole Florida group went out to dinner together!
This is a German fare restaurant.
It was very good!!!!

Of course Otis didn't like it when we had free time, unless we came home with a bite of something for him!!!
He waited so patiently for us to get back to the RV!
What Otis really liked was when we all just sat outside together!

But soon the Rally was over & everyone was leaving for their separate destinations. For us....we're heading now for Shipshewana, Indiana.

September 27, 2015-Sunday- Another day....another Adventure!?!

This is proof that SOMETIMES I do see sunrise! We're not leaving that early!!

The sun is up....that better & now we're on the road!
                                                           Shipshewana.....here we come!
