Watkins Glen

October 4, 2015-Sunday- Lennie has done his research & today we are in for a real treat!!! We are going to Watkins Glen State Park & WALK the Gorge Trail. Through research  we know the Gorge Trail consists of 832 steps!!!! Already my legs are feeling rubbery & we haven't even left the campgrounds yet!!!! I haven't heard the word ELEVATOR, but I did hear the word shuttle bus, that's a little reassuring!?! The words Otis DOESN'T want to hear is.....NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THE GORGE TRAIL.832 steps means we better be wearing comfortable walking shoes!

We leave wearing our coats, but by the time we arrive at the park, the sun is shining it's going to be a great day for a walk(!) & especially pictures!

We didn't know our parking options till our walk was over! You could park in free parking then walk up the gorge, & back down....that'd be 832 steps xs2!!! We didn't do that!!! We drove to the North entrance of the park & started our trek down the Gorge Trail 832 steps & 19 waterfalls!!!

There are NO WORDS to describe our walk down the Gorge Trail. We were in awe!!!

                   One last tunnel.The tunnels in the Gorge were hand carved in the early 1900's.

 We are now at the Entrance. It took us an hour & a half to walk down the Gorge Trail, that includes taking time  to OOH & AAH & of course take pictures!

 Here comes the Shuttle Bus which will take us back up to the north entrance where our car is waiting for us!!!

                                             It such a beautiful ride back to the campground.

 When I think of New York all I picture is concrete & steel.I forget all about New York having this beautiful country side!

 We're back at the campground, where Otis has been keeping his eye, well maybe his NOSE, on pork chops cooking in the crock pot! We'll have to reward him with his own bite of some pork chops!

We thought Letchworth State Park was beautiful, but Watkins Glen outshone Letchworth, but......I would revisit both of them. Better make it soon too before I can't walk up or down the 832 steps!!!!
