July 12, 2013 Mount Rushmore at night!

This morning we awoke to the wind howling again!?! Is that wind ever going to stop? Lennie said if we weren't paid up, we would have left. He's tired of the wind & rain in this area!!!
This is one of those days when we don't really have anything planned for the day, because we have night plans! We have a few errands we have to do in town, we don't want to leave Otis at the RV too long because we're going to be leaving him alone while we go to the night viewing of Mount Rushmore! After a slow paced breakfast we left for town. Lennie wanted to stop at ACE Hardware in hopes of repairing a small RV problem! I waited in the car. That stop was a success for Len! Driving along I saw a Ben Franklin Craft store!!! I had to go in, Lennie waited in the car. That stop was a success for me! A little more driving around, & a very important stop came up, NOOOO not a potty break....LUNCH!!! No picnic lunch was packed this morning, today lunch is at....
YUUUUMMMM!!!!!
                                        & no McDouble for Otis!!!
We better head back to the RV Park, Otis is wondering where we're at! So I throw a load of laundry in at the park's laundry facility while Lennie makes that RV repair. Otis is wondering what happened to his McDouble!?! We have spaghetti for dinner & afterwards take Otis for his nightly walk. Dogs are smart & he suspicious something is going on! We leave with Len's promise to Otis that he'll bring him back a McDouble! What a spoiled dog! BTW....Otis only eats the meat, he says "No thanks" to the bun!!!!
It has the look of rain in the sky as we get closer & closer to Mount Rushmore! We get in line to pay to park. It's a $10.00 parking fee. The good thing about that is, your parking pass is good now for the rest of the season, that's good unless you're a tourist only there for a night!?!
The night ceremony starts at 9:00pm, we get there at 7:30pm with plans to take pictures! We brought the umbrella with us just in case. but if the wind picks up like it did last night.....well good thing the parking pass is good for the rest of the season! We were plenty early to get a good seat, which we didn't pick right away! Instead we went inside the Visitors Center where you can see pictures of the Sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, his family, & read the history behind the great artist who brought Mount Rushmore to life with his master piece, 14 years in the making. After looking around inside we went to choose our seats only to discover it was RAINING!!!! Not a problem, not yet any how.....there's also a movie you can watch showing the start to finish steps of the Mount Rushmore sculptures. When that was over, it was getting closer to the light show, if there was going to be a light show??? I was thinking we should leave & come back tomorrow??? It was almost "COLD", but the rain was barely a drizzle now so we sat down!
The clouds are moving out, I see the moon,
I think it's going to be alright!
I take a quick picture just in case!
The night ceremony isn't just a switch of a light on the presidential sculptures! Oh Noooo! a Ranger presents a whole program that includes a talk, short movie, & singing together the National Anthem. Then.....the lights come on the sculptures!
Everyone is silent! Then the Ranger asks for ALL Veterans to come down to the stage to participate in the Flag lowering ceremony!
it was a stage full, I tried real hard to take Len's picture but......
After the flag was lowered.....the Ranger went to every Veteran on the stage & asked them their name & rank! When the last one had spoken, a huge round of applause went out for all the veterans on stage! It was great!!!
As we left the amphitheatre I turned & took one last picture of  Mount Rushmore!

True to his word, Lennie stopped at McDonalds on our way home to get Otis his McDouble!
This is what HAPPY looks like!
