Early day today......we are going to Badlands National Park, it's about a 60 mile drive from the RV Park...A quick breakfast, pack a picnic lunch, walk Otis, & we're ready to roll. Notice the "WE" ? Yes that means Otis too! He's had too many McDoubles!!! The drive there, Otis is on my lap! Didn't I say he was going to ride in the back???
so we get to use Len's pass!!!
This 244,000-acre landscape is both barren & beautiful. wind & rain erosion have created an eerie moonscape of deep gorges & jagged sawtooth ridges with rock layers painted in subtle hues of sand, rose, gold & green.Camera's ready.....let's go! I enjoy both the natural scenery & wildlife, I think Lennie & Otis enjoy the picnics!!!
Okay..... I want to see some wildlife!!! The loop we're on is Roberts Prairie Dog Town & suppose to be our best chance of seeing wildlife!?!
Oh....King on the Mountain!?!
You stay in the car Otis!!!!
That was our wildlife for this day.....now the scenery!!!
We didn't run out of scenery did we? Fat Chance!!!
It was pretty warm out today & I was wondering where our picnic spot was going to be? I haven't seen any shade today! We saw a sign showing the designated picnic area.....
with no shade trees!
We're done at the Badlands, but we really enjoyed,
now....we're going to head out!
We're going to Wall, S. Dakota, only a 10 mile drive from the Badlands & home of the FAMOUS WALL DRUGSTORE!!!!
Established in 1931, little did the Hustead family know that Wall Drug would eventually become the world's most famous drugstore offering FREE ice water to thousands of tourists daily, where coffee is still five cents & all kinds of free attractions are there for their enjoyment!
We need to think about heading back to the RV park!
to quit posing for the camera!?!
As we start driving back, we see dark clouds rolling in. Lennie makes the remark that the clouds are probably hanging over our RV Park!?! Well shut your mouth Len, cause as we approached the RV Park the rain started, just drops, not too bad. Len was able to grill out & after dinner we were able to take Otis for his walk & then a beautiful sunset!!!!
But......when we went to bed, our heads had barely hit the pillows when thunder & lightening began! Pretty soon we could hear Otis whimpering. We tried to ignore him, but the thunder & lightening continued, & the whimpering increased! Finally Lennie got up & let Otis come to bed with us!!!! (NO picture needed!)
